Chapter 539: A Resolve At the Beach

The followers vanished in the blink of an eye as Nikolai, Ryan, and Alexei drove into the small village at high speed. Their car shifted onto the beach and soon came to a halt. Asmodeus looked back and killed the engine. “Well that’s it….” He wasn’t sure why they stopped following. ‘Let’s assume they’re gathering forces.’

He climbed out of his car, half-stuck in the sand and stepped towards the ocean.

“Boss?” Ryan called out while holding his shoulder, the blood seeping through his clothes as he chased Nikolai.

“Leader, where are you going?”

Even Alexei called out to him as they left the car, and both chased Nikolai, who overlooked the vast horizon. When he felt the aura of the two men, he turned back with a smile and tapped his nose.

“So, you’ve seen how exciting life will be with me.” He curled his lips into a wicked grin. “Do you still want to be part of my five generals?”

Before they answered, Nikolai searched the car and carried items to the beach.

Under the moonlight, the three men sat on a spare blanket from the back of the car, with a few bottles of cheap alcohol, while the loud sirens and vehicles that drove around echoed in the distance.

He sat down with an open bottle and glanced at Alex and Ryan, who both appeared completely stunned at how calm Nikolai appeared.

“I’ll follow you. I cannot forget what you’ve done to help me.” Alexei took a bottle and tapped it against Nikolai’s. “Without you brother, I would have lost my sister and never stood up again. Not to mention my wife wouldn’t be so happy with so many sisters.”

Nikolai tapped him back and swigged some of his beer. “So, have they settled in well?”

“Yes, my wife was a little nervous at first, but now they’ve created a small group and spend their time cleaning the ocean and city.” Alexei’s face beamed with delight when he talked about his wife and her homeland.

“Good, I always felt in debt to you and your wife, Alex.”

His first meeting with Alexei and his wife brought a smile to Nikolai’s face. He glanced at Ryan, who reached out for a bottle.

“Of course, I’m with you.”

“Really?” Nikolai responded with a sarcastic tone.

“Yes.” Ryan flicked his head back and downed the bottle in one. With foam covering his lips, he curled them and smiled. “Brother, I have failed you twice, and you still never betrayed or let me down. I can only spend the rest of my life making up for that.”

“I helped you find a wife, too.”

Nikolai drank more of his beer while chewing on some salted pork snacks with a grin.

“…”

Alexei’s eyes flicked between the two before he held out a bottle of vodka. “Cheers.”

“Trust you to choose that for our second drinks,” Nikolai chuckled. “Cheers.”

“Well, let’s drink!”

The three bottles clinked together, dull under the open sky. The moon hung just above the horizon. A large shimmering sphere. Its reflection stretched across the black water like molten glass. For a while, no one spoke, and only the distant waves and the hum of the city filled the silence.

Ryan finally leaned back while letting out a loud burp. “Feels so damn strange to think we’re just sitting here after declaring war on half the damn city.”

Alexei snorted and slapped his back. “Well, not like we have a choice.”

“Ack!”

Nikolai watched the horizon with his red eyes, shimmering in the hazy light. “Well, as long as we have the courage to win then nothing will go wrong. I won’t let you fight a losing battle.”

A breeze swept over them, scattering sand against their boots. The smell of salt and metal mixed in the air. Despite the calm surface, tension lingered beneath it and refused to fade. Far in the distance, faint flashes pulsed over the city skyline. Sirens, smoke and the start of their retaliation.

Alexei cracked open another bottle and drank straight from it.

“You think they’ll come tonight?”

Nikolai tilted his head while leaning back with both arms. “They will probably test the main clans, nothing too big. I think we should head back to the slums and help the Fenrir family; those bastards love messing with my in-laws.”

“So we’re not done?”

Ryan’s words slurred slightly as he leaned against Alexei with both eyes half-closed.

“Can’t you hear them?” Nikolai chuckled; his best friend rarely drank this much in the past. He found this new side of Ryan fun.

However, when he spread his aura, he could feel the surroundings, beyond the beach, several cars and vans full of combat maids all awaited them.

‘No wonder it’s so calm…’

Leona’s familiar aura flickered and shrank when he turned around. He curled his lips into a smile after noticing his wife acting shy.

Nikolai stood up and brushed the sand from his coat. The faint rumble of engines flowed across the beach, and the ocean breeze tugged at his hair. Ryan mumbled something incoherent, half asleep, against Alexei’s shoulder.

“They really sent the entire household,” Alexei muttered, squinting toward the line of black vans parked under the dunes. The silhouettes of armoured figures stood by the vehicles, perfectly still.

Nikolai chuckled softly. “Leona always overdoes it when she worries.”

A door opened with a hiss of compressed air. Leona stepped out with a slow movement, combat uniform half-unzipped, orange hair tied in a tight high ponytail. Her green eyes shimmered in the dark like dark emeralds.

Around her stood twenty of the Volkov combat maids who fanned out in silence, all armed with blades and standard pistols.

“Are you done with your boy’s night out, husband?” She asked with a calm but stiff tone.

Nikolai just smiled back before hugging her.

“N-Nikolai!?”

Because she was working, the moment he hugged her, she let out a shy yelp, but the maids just grinned at the sight. Nikolai enjoyed the warmth of her body while sliding his fingers through her hair. “We have work to do right?”

“W-We?” Leona stuttered.

Her gaze dropped to the side, ignoring the half-empty bottles and messy blanket.

“Husband, you should go home… we’ll take care—!?”

Nikolai closed her lips, his tongue easily parting her mouth open as she turned bright red. She hummed before clamping down on his tongue, unable to endure the soft movements tickling her.

“Whoa, nice kiss.”

Leona’s words vanished, dying in his mouth as the sound of the sea swallowed everything else, but the hum of engines, quiet snickers of maids and Alexei’s whistle.

When Nikolai finally pulled back, his tone was calm again. “You think I’d let you handle this alone?”

Leona’s eyes wavered. “You shouldn’t expose yourself. Those bastards are after you… if they find you all of them will.”

He interrupted her. “I started this, don’t stop me.” His hand brushed the loose strands of her hair back behind her ear.

“Fine! Show him.”

A maid approached and handed her a small tablet.

Leona scanned it, then passed it to him. A map flickered to life with several red markers across the industrial district.

“There’s multiple ongoing skirmishes right now.” she said. “The Fenrir family’s outnumbered, but thanks to the reinforcements they’ve held on. But the SSS has deployed their combat units near the southern district entrance.”

Nikolai studied the map and tilted his head. “So the SSS is working with the Nosferatu?”

“Exactly.”

Ryan rubbed his face, still half-drunk but alert enough to catch the shift in tone. “Those SSS bastards!”

Everyone turned to the human with a deadpan face. “Ryan you’re still technically a member of the SSS you know?” Alexei cracked his neck with a chuckle. “But if we’re going to fight, then I want to join.”

Nikolai looked between the two, then back to Leona. “You heard them. Split the squad. Half with Alexei and Ryan, the other half with me. We’ll strike them from behind while I take members to support the main conflict points.”

He then tapped the screen. “Make civilians and weaker fighters take shelter. I don’t want people dying for nothing, they’ve developed dangerous weapons.”

The silver bullets that the SSS created could inhibit and destroy bloodlines and blood arts, but most of the combat troops of the Volkov and Fenrir families have already taken the shot that can resist the minerals and compounds in the bullets.

But it wasn’t perfect, and people could still die from a single shot.

“Are you sure, Leader?”

“Yeah, you and Ryan work better together, just jab him with this to sober him up.” Nikolai passed a syringe to Alexei and then slapped his shoulder. “Be safe.”

“Of course, brother.”

Leona tapped her comm and gave a series of clipped orders. She was busy, and Nikolai tried to help her as much as possible. He wasn’t part of their team, and thanks to him being the Patriarch, he could help without useless issues.

As Leona turned back, Nikolai was already walking toward the nearest van, but she caught his arm and pulled him back.

“Husband, come with me. This is our ride.”

He glanced at the black van with a nice sheen as she hopped into the driver’s seat and swallowed his saliva, as the maids sitting in the back all held submachine guns, and they repurposed the windows to create a mobile bunker.

“Sweet.”
