Chapter 538: Fight Night

The trio stood amongst a massive group of monsters, ghouls, zombies and pale riders in the middle of the dance floor. A vibrant club became a bloody hell after they started massacring the humans inside.

“Nikolai… is it me or does everything go to shit when I drink with you?”

Ryan smashed a bottle over the ghoul’s head. The ghoul staggered dazed from the blow as he slammed his knee into its nose, sending the monster flying.

“Fuck off.” Nikolai hooked his left arm and ripped apart several ghouls, devouring their power with his claws. “Why is it my fault!?”

The monster’s groaning resembled nails on a chalkboard as Alexei smashed into a pillar. With a series of blows, he crushed the monster’s flesh, bones and shattered the stone pillar itself, before he slammed into a second with his elbow.

“Brother, these things aren’t normal.” Alexei stomped on the fallen zombie and burst its head.

“Tsk!”

Nikolai ignored Alexei while tearing apart the zombies that clung to him. His claws ripped them apart with ease after reaching the great elder. He dashed through them and dragged his claws in a reverse arc, and tore them apart.

A brutal fight broke out, with smashed glass, damaged pillars and the loud pop of Ryan’s magnums.

Bam!

Black blood oozed down Nikolai’s arms as he panted. Although killing the monsters was easy, the number of them continued to increase. “Phew.” After Ryan’s last shot shattered a pale rider’s skull, the trio dropped onto a leather sofa near the stage.

“Well, that was pretty exciting.”

“Shut up Nikolai.” Ryan grabbed a bottle of cheap beer and slammed it on the table’s edge to open the cap. “Well… it was fun.”

“Grab me one, Ryan.”

Alexei didn’t drink often, but after an hour of fighting, he grabbed a bottle of the cheap, dark beer and another for Nikolia as they leaned together.

“Do you think it was those bastards again?”

“I have no clue, Ryan.”

“Brother, it was them let’s be real…” Alexei ended the conversation.

The three men sat drinking together, their faces and bodies a mess, and yet all of them were grinning, even Alexei. In the distance, the sound of sirens echoed, but different from the police, the tone was likely the SSS preparing for a huge raid.

“Should we head back?” Nikolai asked, before tossing his bottle at a Ghoul that tried to get up. The bottle smashed and knocked it down again. “Or should we go cause some trouble at a Nosferatu bar?”

“You want to fight more? Fuck. Must be a werewolf thing.”

“Human… who was the one shooting wildly with a crazed laughter?”

“Alexei!?”

At first, the atmosphere between Ryan and Alexei remained stiff. However, during the battle, the two crashed through the thin glass. “You two are pretty good.” Nikolai closed his eyes. After Londis and everything in the past few months, he’d grown tired.

‘And yet tonight was so fun.’

He couldn’t tell if it was because he wasn’t alone, or if just being with these two made it fun.

“Let’s leave this place, it’d be bad if those guys arrest us.”

“You’re right, Alex, not like Ryan can help us anymore, he’s a traitor to the SSS.”

“I can’t help it if I like Lamia’s!?”

Ryan’s shout echoed through the room as he stood up with staggering steps. Unlike Nikolai and Alexei, he was a little tipsy after drinking. The trio bickered and argued as they slipped out of the back door and found the corpse of the staff member who drove Nikola’s M8 earlier.

“Damn the kid’s dead.” Nikolai mumbled while taking his keys, and his expression became darker momentarily. ‘Is this kids death my fault?’

“What’s up, boss?”

“N-Nothing…”

Despite knowing that Nosferatu would come for him, Nikolai just didn’t care all that much, even after seeing the corpses of humans who had died.

‘No, this would have happened eventually even if I didn’t exist.’

There was no need to blame himself or let it affect him, and so he closed the eyes of the human before unlocking his car.

“So where shall we go?” He turned the ignition and looked back at his brothers.

Vrrrrrum!

“I’m not sure, my wife is spending the night with yours… so she gave me a free pass tonight.” Alexei’s wife visited the Volkov mansion several days a month before returning to the nexus and hiding out on her world.

“Oh, did the mermaids and other girls I sent over settle in?”

Alexei’s wife asked Nikolai to send any mermaids or ocean-type monsters he came across to the abandoned world where they once lived. At first, it seemed impossible, but meeting Amphitrite and clearing the old tower allowed her to guide them back home.

“Well they’ve built a small village, and have been learning magic and combat training from my wife, it seems they’ll be able to survive just fine.” The planet Alex and his wife lived was half-corrupted, with only a small part of the ocean and land still usable.

“Ah, my wife also moved there.” Ryan added with a slurred tone.

“Really?”

“Yeah, he asked me if she would be safe somewhere for a while, and my wife seems to enjoy spending time with her.” Alex answered.

The men chatted away while driving randomly down a highway. Nikolai realised that even when he wasn’t here, the world continued. His wives and friends arranged so many things to make life easier.

‘I want to go home and kiss my wives goodnight…’

He’d never thought they would work so hard, but Alex and Ryan spilt quite a few secrets. It was interesting how they’d made a small gathering between the wives of all people close to Nikolai… even his many mother-in-laws attended.

“Are we going home, or is there something you guys wanna do?”

This kind of night out would probably not come often, but Nikolai, who gripped the wheel, realised he didn’t know what to do. All his time involved fighting, sex, leading his clan and the alliance… so now he was a little out of his element.

“I think you should drive faster.”

“Huh, why?”

“No, he’s right… Drive faster!”

“Hmm?”

Nikolai glanced in the rearview mirror. “SHIT!”

VRROOOM!”

Instantly, he pushed down the accelerator, his hand flicking the gear stick while reaching for the Desert Eagle holstered beside his seat. “How the fuck did they find us!?”

“Who knows, just get rid of them!”

Huge modified SUVs and cars raced behind them, the colours and markings of various clans and races, with the leading vehicles clearly from the Nosferatu clan.

“Ryan, can’t you blow their tyre’s out?”

“W-What!? At this speed, I’ll die!”

“Tsk! In action movies the humans can do it all the time.”

“Alex… that’s just movies!”

Nikolai listened to Alexei and Ryan complaining at each other, his hands clamped to the wheel as their speed needle reached the upper left of the dial. His body shook from the intense vibrations through the car while curling his lips.

“These bastards, why do they have Gatling guns on their jeeps!?”

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hundreds of bullets rained down along the asphalt, the bullets ricocheting off the reinforced M8, leaving small dents and marks on the body and glass. Nikolai shifted the car, almost drifting between the free lanes; luckily, there was no traffic.

‘Why is there no traffic? Not a single car ahead?’

Normally, late-night vans or trucks would appear, but right now the entire thing was empty, as if someone planned this.

Alex and Ryan leaned out the window, popping shots back at the cars struggling to keep up, their aim able to wreck a car or two before sliding back with bullets almost taking Ryan’s head off.

“S-Shit, I almost died…”

The damaged windows cracked, with thousands of spiderwebs filling them; only a little more force might shatter them whole.

“Nikolai.”

Alexei called out to Nikolai while reloading his gun.

“Hm?”

“Don’t you think it’s strange, how they knew our every move and the entire highway is empty?”

Nikolai agreed. He spent the past few minutes trying to figure out who, bullets continued to bounce off the car as he swerved through the lanes, on both sides to avoid the chase. But monsters didn’t have a problem with this kind of high-speed chase.

“Hold on, I’m taking us off the road!”

Clack!

He pulled the handbrake and turned the wheel, his car rapidly turning back to face the monsters…

Skrrrrrrr!

Skkkt!

Several cars turned off the road to avoid clashing with him as he pushed down the handbrake and pushed the accelerator, driving into the crowd.

“Head’s down! Let’s go!!”

“Nikolai you motherfucker!”

With a burst of adrenaline as they drove into the mass of vehicles, bullets bounced off the glass, metal, and finally, the windows shattered, and both sides of the car were filled with gunshots and glass.

“Shoot back!”

Nikolai narrowed his eyes, his heart racing as he focused all his aura into his arms, legs and eyes to help avoid bullets while steering between oncoming cars took his entire focus. The pop of Ryan and Alexei shooting back became white noise.

That’s when he saw the road leaving the highway, which led to the beach with the hotel where he and Selene conceived their child.

“Hold on to your seats, boys!”

His right hand turned the wheel, his left hand grabbed his Eagle, and with a sharp glint in his eyes, he aimed at the motorbike beside his window.

“Oi, fuckers.”

The two males riding the modded bike aimed their submachine guns with fierce expressions.

“Kekekeke! Die Volkov!”

But Nikolai’s gun flashed, and the silver bullet penetrated their gas chamber, instantly knocking them down as it collapsed and exploded.

BOOM!
