Chapter 1461: Proposal
“We just received word, Ignite Lasnot. He’s in the city.”
A red haired man lowered and set his tea on the table. He stared at his subordinate with narrowed eyes.
“You’re sure it’s him?”
“Yes. Ignite Lasnot.”
“Since when?”
“Thirty minutes ago.”
Lasnot furrowed his brows.
“Why am I just hearing about this now?”
His will slammed into the subordinate, forcing him to one knee.
“I-it’s… it’s—”
“Speak clearly.”
The temperature rose, and the subordinate was drenched in sweat the next moment. He gulped and forced his heart to steady. Any slip up here would result in death.
“I-I apologize, Ignite. We took time because we were seeking to confirm if it was truly him. His battle with the four warriors delayed that an—”
“The four warriors?”
“Y-yes, Ignite Lasnot. I—”
“How did it end?”
The subordinate swallowed. “He defeated them flawlessly.”
A deep frown appeared on Lasnot’s lips.
‘I’ve underestimated him.’
The four warriors were well known among the barons of the Verge. Though neither was from a major faction, their experience and teamwork had always made up for that fact.
Together they could even defeat high rank baron gods, talk less of one weaker than them. Yet, they lost.
‘Was it his true will?’
The limits of true will had yet to be determined. Different gods had different extents to which their true wills boosted them.
There were true will baron rank gods that couldn’t defeat false willers with one minor world higher than them, while there were others that could defeat higher.
‘If it is, then he’s dangerous.’
Aside from that, if Atticus had defeated the four then it meant he had enough to ascend to the viscount realm.
‘Why is he still here? To capture a territory? Or something else…’
‘It doesn’t matter. As long as he’s still here…’
Lasnot rose from his seat, causing his subordinate to quickly back off and clear the way.
He walked to the open window and stared at the town square below, where numerous gods were already gathered and waiting.
‘It’s the best way to gain his favor.’
There was no baron rank Redflame god that didn’t know the viscount Merek’s “interest” in Atticus.
The child had killed two of his children, and he was out for blood. The Redflame barons saw this as an opportunity to gain his favor, to deliver the head of his children’s killers to him.
‘I have to be cautious.’
He turned toward his subordinate.
“Where is he now?”
“About ten minutes away, Ignite.”
‘That’s enough time.’
“We’re heading to the square. Get the others.”
“You mean…?”
Feeling Lasnot’s cold gaze on him, the subordinate quickly cleared his throat, nodded, and spurred out to fulfil the order.
Moments later, a group of Redflames gathered behind Lasnot as they made their way down the stairs of the building.
The second they left the building and walked into the square, the other gods present narrowed their eyes at them.
“Look, it’s the Redflames.”
“Damn, so there was another major faction in this territory? There’s no way we can win.”
The whispers were endless. The square was filled with hundreds of gods and their subordinates who had come to the centre of the city to claim the territory.
They simply waited for the countdown to finish and the competition to begin.
The presence of another major faction made them uneasy; each couldn’t help but throw subtle glances at the nature and iron factions already present.
Another strong contender had just arrived.
“Wait. Where are they going?”
It was expected the Redflames would stand with the other major factions, their equals. However, they watched as Lasnot led the Redflames to the platform in front of the square.
A second later he stood on it, staring down at the gathered gods.
“I welcome you all, respectable Gods and champions. My name is Lasnot, and as you are all aware, I’m a god from the great Redflame faction.”
The nature and iron faction gods narrowed their eyes. What was he playing at?
“It would seem that we’re all here for the same thing, the acquisition of this territory,”
“But let us not pretend. With Redflame present alongside nature and iron, your chances of winning are negligible. You will die a meaningless death.”
Lasnot smiled as the eyes of the lesser gods turned cold. While those words were true, none wanted to hear them.
“Do not be disheartened,” Lasnot said. ” I have a proposal, one that gives meaning to your actions and spares you useless sacrifice..”
The gods narrowed their eyes, while the iron and nature gods tensed. Why did they feel like he was trying to rile the crowd… against them?
The city was large and dangerous, and the weak had already been weeded. Most gods who made it to the centre were considered elite.
Lasnot stretched his arm and one of his subordinates brought over a parchment. He opened it and held it for all to see. Many gasped, while the nature and iron factions relaxed.
“One million!”
“Who is that?”
“Isn’t that ‘the bounty’?”
“That’s Atticus Ravenstein! I have his bounty. Does that mean he’s here?”
While some showed shock at the unbelievable bounty price, the majority expressed recognition.
“Who here hasn’t heard about this bounty before?”
Though some hadn’t, none raised their hands.
“And what if I told you the wanted man is on his way? Less than eight minutes from this very square.”
The eyes of the gods narrowed. Eight minutes? Was he serious…
“He’s right!”
“Yeah! I can see him on the map.”
As the gods with the bounty confirmed themselves, the square instantly grew rowdy and excitement rose.
“We can go after him and claim the bounty! Then we don’t need this territory! Or even the Verge game!”
“We could use this to buy enough veinroot to increase our strength!”
“A great proposal, isn’t it? Well, what if I tell you that the Redflame will aid in his capture?”
As the square went silent, Lasnot waved and his subordinates stepped forward and stood just behind him.
“Dont worry, we would require no share of the bounty whatsoever. The only thing we need is his head.”
Many gods nodded in understanding. The enmity between the Redflame and this new god was widespread by now. While others were excited.
“So, what do you say?”
Hands flew up, followed by murmurs of agreement. Lasnot smiled.
‘This will be easy.’
