Chapter 1458: Bounty Update
(AN: Remember to read the previous chapter first before this one)
Atticus sheathed his katana and continued moving through the forest. But seconds had barely passed when he thought about the god he’d just killed.
‘Why was he happy?’
Asides that, the man had spoken as though he knew Atticus.
‘The bounty…’
The bounty the Will Guard placed on him after their clash on the Willess World. If it was still active, it meant others would be coming for him.
‘Things just got more complicated.’
People would be hunting him, and it wasn’t only low level barons like the one he’d just killed, but higher levels too.
‘I have to get stronger fast.’
Atticus increased his speed once more. As though the world answered his thoughts, more low level gods came for him and ended up with severed heads before they could finish talking.
Eventually, Atticus reached the end of the forest and stared at the massive walled city just after the foliage.
‘The first territory…’
He glanced at the sides and realized he couldn’t see the end of the city walls.
‘It’s vast… how should I go about this?’
In such an enclosed space, it was easy to get surrounded from all sides, especially with the bounty on him. Atticus called upon his status and checked how many minor worlds he’d gathered.
‘Seventeen worlds in total…’
He’d only met low level gods so far. It was both good and bad news. Good, in the sense that he could easily dispatch each of them, and bad, in that his progress was stunted.
‘There’s no choice. I need a territory.’
Gripping his blade, he shot forward and quickly scaled the fence, entering the city.
…
“He’s here.”
A man held a set of binoculars over his eyes. Through it, he watched a boy with a katana strapped to his left waist jump down from the city wall.
“That was quick,” another spoke.
The man dropped the binoculars and turned. He was tall, but toned rather than buff. Clad in leather armor and skirt, and holding a helmet in his other hand, he looked every bit like a Roman soldier.
“It’s to our benefit. The bounty is ours for the taking,” he said, facing the man who’d spoken.
“Benefit? I’m not so sure about that,” the second replied.
He was a man of imposing stature. Heavily armored from head to toe, he held a large sword with both hands. He looked every bit like a legendary knight.
“What do you mean?”
“Think about it. Every god in this layer is a baron, which means most would go after him for the bounty. Yet he made it here so fast and completely unscathed.”
“He’s strong.”
They turned toward the third. His eyes were half-closed, and he was clad in a flowing robe, palms pressed together as though constantly praying.
“Exactly,” the knight nodded.
“Doesn’t matter.”
They turned to the fourth. He rested by the wall, brushing his fingers against the hilt of his katana. He was donned in a kimono, and rough hair framed his face.
He met the eyes of the other three with a steely gaze.
“We’re bounty hunters. We kill him.”
“He’s right,” the Roman said. “This is why we joined hands in the first place. If you want to back out, do it now.”
He met eyes with each of them, but none looked away.
“Alright then,” the Roman smiled, “let’s go hunting.”
…
“I found him! He’s over there!”
‘Another one.’
Atticus narrowed his eyes as he blurred through the streets of the city.
‘How do they keep finding me?’
Only a few minutes had gone by, and he had to fight and kill more than three gods. He wouldn’t have cared if he simply ran into them, however, that wasn’t what was happening.
‘They’re hunting me.’
He didn’t know how, but somehow, they could locate where he was at all times.
“There he is! Surround him now!”
Atticus gripped his katana and vanished. The next moment, the heads of the gods surrounding him flew from their bodies, and blood sputtered, staining the floor crimson.
He stood and began absorbing their wills, but not even a second passed when another shout echoed.
“He’s close! Move faster!”
‘Another group.’
He fought individual gods in the forest, but they had begun to form groups in the city.
‘They’re adjusting to my strength.’
Atticus realized. It was only a matter of time before a truly strong god or group came after him.
‘I have to get to the bottom of this.’
He fixed his eyes on the approaching gods.
‘All low level.’
Right now, the total worlds under him have entered twenty. Considering he had a true will, his will was way more potent and stronger than theirs.
They only saw a streak of light as he moved. Their heads flew from their bodies before they realized.
Absorbing their wills, the number shifted to twenty three. He continued moving without pause.
‘The best way to handle this is to reach the center and claim the territory.’
The same feeling that pointed him to the territory was doing the same for its center. Once he claimed the territory and expanded his reach, he would be able to tackle the problem.
At fast speed, he made his way to the center.
The city itself was a metropolis. The roads were paved and buildings neatly made. The only thing out of place was the absence of people and the presence of gods hunting him.
More groups came for him after that, but he was able to quickly dispatch them, absorbing their worlds and moving without pause.
Though Atticus had tried to question them, they always turned out blank. The last person left either didn’t know the answer, or they’d rather die than be of help to him.
It wasn’t until many minutes later that he finally came to an abrupt stop.
“Haa… stop looking at me as if you’re better than me… you’re going to die anyway, haa!”
Squlech.
Atticus twisted his katana lodged deeply inside the man before him, and the man screamed in pain. He was in an alleyway, and around him were the severed heads of the others in the group.
He’d just stabbed the last man’s heart with his katana and was about to sever his head when the man spoke.
“How did you find me?”
His will engulfed the man and his skin began to sizzle as it burned. The man thrashed about, screaming in agony.
“T-the b-bounty! T-the b-bounty!”
As Atticus paused, the man gasped for breath.
“I know about the bounty. That doesn’t answer my question.”
The man suddenly laughed weakly.
“Oh, you really don’t know anything, haha…” He breathed heavily, the light in his eyes dimming. “I’ll show you just how hopeless you are.”
He stretched out his shaking arm and a folded parchment materialized.
“Here… see your fate—”
Atticus retracted his blade and beheaded him in one fluid motion. Sheathing his katana, he opened the parchment and read its contents.
‘What… is this?’
A bounty. There was a picture of his face plastered on it, along with numerous other details.
The prize had changed, from a hundred thousand high grade will stones to a million.
But that wasn’t what shocked him the most.
He stared at the map at the bottom of the parchment. On it were two dots, red and green, overlapping on the same spot.
‘They can track me.’
A sharp whistle snapped him out of his thoughts.
‘An attack!’
Atticus gripped his katana and looked up. A spear was screaming toward him at supersonic speed.
