Lei Qian stepped back at once when he saw the machete coming down at him.

“What are you doing?” He almost shrieked when he saw Bai Meiyue bearing the machete and aiming at his head. A chill climbed up his neck, and his legs almost turned into jelly when he saw what the woman was doing. Fortunately, he was alert, or else he would have ended up losing his head tonight.

Bai Meiyue’s eyes widened before returning to normal. She glared at the man and said to him, “I should be the one asking you this. What are you doing? Why are you sneaking inside the room like a thief? Do you even know how scared I was?”

Lei Qian: “…”

He looked at the machete in the woman’s hands and blinked his eyes. She was scared? If she were scared and bearing a machete, what would she have done if she were not scared? Killed him in one shot? He was truly terrified of this woman!

Truly terrifying. This woman was truly terrifying.

“I wasn’t trying to scare you. It’s so late in the morning; I didn’t want to wake you up, but who would have thought that you were not only awake but also playing the role of a man hunter?” Lei Qian remarked with a pat to his chest. Goodness, even now, his heart was running a bit hard. It was a good thing that he was the one living with her, or else if it were some other man, this woman would have made them die of a heart attack.

Not just anyone could live with Bai Meiyue.

“You were the one who left, acting like you were not going to return any time soon, and all of a sudden, you came back. Tell me, who is at fault here?” Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes and questioned the man. She placed her hands on her hips and continued asking, “Tell me, what is going on? Were you not supposed to be dealing with Yu Miaomiao? Why are you back so soon?”

“There was a slight change of plans. Bai Feng sent word that Yu Miaomiao detected some movements and realised that it was not safe for her to leave. She even sent her little spy cameras to catch any suspicious activity. Though everything was hidden in time, the woman is wary and suspicious to begin with. Thus, she changed her plan at the last moment.

He knelt in front of Bai Meiyue and softly cooed at her bulging belly. “I was worried about the two of you.”

“What do you mean by ‘you were worried about us?” Bai Meiyue asked with a frown on her face. “What is there to worry about?”

With a distressed expression, Lei Qian looked up at her. “What is there not to be worried about? I just don’t trust you not to run around. After I realised that Yu Miaomiao had sent her little buzzing spies, I knew that you would not sit tight. So, I came back to check up on whether you are in your bed or not.”

He then stood up and patted her belly as if he was silently telling their son to cause no trouble for his mommy. He said to Bai Meiyue, “I will be going now. Try not to use too many lights and don’t make loud noises. Try to act as if this building is still inhabited.”

“I understand.” Bai Meiyue knew that Lei Qian was only thinking about her.

Yu Miaomiao was supposed to drive past this street. She had already sent her spy cameras around; if she were to find out that this place was not abandoned, there was a very good chance that she might not pass through this street. If that happened, then all their plans would go down the drain. What was more, Bai Feng had arranged for this little trap very carefully and after considering a lot of factors, she couldn’t let that man’s plan trip at the crucial moment.

“I was thinking that you and our son—”

“We are not going anywhere.” Bai Meiyue knew what the man wanted to tell her, and she had no desire to listen to him because she was not going anywhere. He could very well tell her that he was going to die, and she would still stay with him. There was no way she was going to leave him alone.

Even if he were on death’s door, I would snatch him right back. Bai Meiyue was determined to keep this man by her side. Earlier, she had no desire to keep this man, but now that she had accepted his presence in her life, nothing was going to take him away from her.

Her eyes flashed with a dangerous glint just as the spiritual energy within her core surged forward.

If Lei Qian knew what the woman was thinking, he would be so happy that he would have aborted the mission then and there. Who cared about Yu Miaomiao when his darling wanted to stay with him? However, he didn’t. So, he simply shook his head lightly and said to Bai Meiyue, “You…I don’t know what to say to you. Anyway, I asked Bai Feng to arrange a private jet at the southwest warehouse; it’s not far from here, if things go south… you take your second brother and leave with him, alright?”

“I—”

“Just promise me.” Lei Qian reached out and took her hands into his. Even though he didn’t show how nervous he was, his shaking hands did convey what he was feeling at the moment.

Bai Meiyue pursed her lips when she realised how worried Lei Qian felt and finally nodded even though a weight kept pressing on her heart.

“Hey, that’s my good girl.” Lei Qian smiled. In the darkness, he reached out and touched Bai Meiyue’s head. At that very moment, he couldn’t help but think that Bai Meiyue was really cute. When he saw that she was not refusing his touch, he smiled and reached out to kiss her on the cheeks. He said softly, “Remember that you promised me. Don’t come after me if things head south; run away. I don’t want you risking your and our child’s life for me. I am not worth it, seriously.”
