Capítulo 735: Not Worth It
Upon hearing Bai Meiyue’s command, Ciyi nodded and then followed Lei Qian out of the room. When Bai Meiyue saw Ciyi following Lei Qian, her heart settled a bit. She knew that the man was more than proficient when it came to dealing with such a situation. However, for some reason, she couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous when she thought about how the man was going to deal with the turbulent current on his own.
Bai Meiyue sat inside the dark room, which was lit with the small moth-like lights. She turned her head and looked at the moon that was shimmering outside. Perhaps because her mind was playing tricks on her, she felt like the moon was emitting a much softer light than it usually did.
The soft moonlight shone on the floor.
Bai Meiyue rose to her feet and then walked over to the window. She looked down at the street where many cars were parked in a disorganised condition. With the lack of use, a thick layer of dust and dew had covered their surfaces. Under the soft moonlight, the dew looked really fluffy. The surroundings were exceptionally quiet; it was as if, were she to drop a needle from the nineteenth floor of this building, she would still be able to hear the sound of it falling on the ground.
Bai Meiyue had a bad feeling in her heart. She sighed and then walked over to the bed, where she sat down on the edge and waited for Lei Qian to return. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard the sound of something buzzing in the air and all of a sudden, all the sleepiness in her eyes vanished. She sat up straight and turned to look at the window.
On such a quiet night, where did the sound of something buzzing in the air come from? This was simply too weird.
She got up in a jiffy; with a hand covering her belly protectively, she walked out of the room barefoot. Standing at the balcony that stretched out from the side of the building, she looked up at the sky. She noticed a small mutated insect flying in the sky. Because she was hidden behind the outstretched wall, the insect didn’t see her. However, there was something weird about the insect that was flying in the sky, as the thing was too sturdy and looked a bit fake.
Around the building, everything was absolutely silent; it was terribly quiet inside and outside. Inside her belly, she felt something bump her. Her son was hitting her from the inside as if silently protesting against her for staying awake so late. It was obvious that it was getting late, and it was time for the two of them to sleep, but instead of lying down on the bed and getting her well-deserved nap, Bai Meiyue was staying up late.
If Xiao Cai were in front of her, he would obviously be yelling at her for staying up late. It was obviously time for them to go to bed, so why was his mother staying up so late? Was this the time to moongaze? Though her son was good in every other way, he was used to getting a bit fussy whenever he was forced to stay up late.
Bai Meiyue lowered her head and patted the small fist-sized bump with her hand. She rubbed her fussy son soothingly and then ignored him altogether. She might love her son more than she loved herself, but there was no way she was ever going to let him get spoiled. She then returned her attention to the buzzing insect, her eyes narrowing slightly as she stared at the thing.
Bai Meiyue turned to look at the west, where she could sense Lei Qian’s energy fluctuations, but suddenly that energy disappeared right away.
Bai Meiyue narrowed her eyes; she was no fool and soon realised that this insect was not an ordinary insect but something that Yu Miaomiao sent her and Lei Qian’s way. All of a sudden, she felt her blood boiling. All the sleepiness in her eyes vanished, and she raised her head to look at the insect. She waited for it to fly a bit far from the building where she was hiding and then summoned a water lyre.
The bird twisted its long tail in the air, and with a twist of its body, it flew toward the mutated insect. Bai Meiyue watched it leave and turned to walk inside the room.
With a yawn, she arched her arms over her head and then went to sleep. She was tired and needed some rest, or else Bai Meiyue was worried that she would end up getting knocked out. With another yawn that she stifled, she walked over to the bed and lay down on her side to sleep.
Click.
It was as if she had barely lain down when the door of her room opened with a click, and Bai Meiyue, who was already wary after seeing Yu Miaomiao’s robot flying outside the building, immediately sat up straight. Her heart leapt to her throat as she reached for the watch and took a look at it.
It was four in the morning. She then turned to look at the crack of the door that was getting bigger and bigger; she immediately summoned an ice machete and raised it in the air. Her eyes focused on the door as if she were waiting for something, and she slowly made her way out of bed.
I was clearly careful then, so how did this woman find out that I am hiding here? Bai Meiyue wondered as she slowly and steadily made her way toward the door. She had countless thoughts in her head but had no way to get an answer to her questions. With her eyes fixated on the door, she raised the machete in the air, prepared to decapitate the head of whoever dared to trespass in her room.
They might be daring enough to sneak an attack on me, but beyond this, past this —only death awaits them.
