While Bai Meiyue and the rest were busy collecting the tea packages, Lei Qian had already cleaned up the buildings of the zombies with the rest of the men. He turned to look at Bai Zhan and said to him, “Change the surface of the doors to something more formidable. We don’t want anyone barging when we are not prepared, Brother Zhan.”

Bai Zhan nodded and turned on his feet before heading out of the room to finish the task that was given to him. Lei Qian then turned to look at Bai Jixuan and said to him, “Brother Jixuan, can you—”

“I will arrange some mutated animals to be on guard.”

Lei Qian nodded. He then arranged for a room for Bai Meiyue to rest, as he knew that she couldn’t sleep on the floor with her condition. It was a good thing that he found the bed and mattress section. Though the survivors cleaned up all the sections where the edibles and the water resources were kept, they left the mattresses and the beds alone because they were of no use to them. He quickly selected a comfortable pair and brought it to an empty, small section where he arranged everything that a pregnant woman would need.

This building was a commercial building, and thus, he could find everything that he wanted. Thus, when Bai Meiyue arrived at the floor where Lei Qian was waiting for her, he had already arranged everything neatly for her. The generator of this building had long been shut down, and Bai Meiyue had to use her ice skills to cool down the floors, as the temperature outside was way too hot and there was no way they could have survived in this heat.

With her cooling down the floors, the members of her team finally breathed a sigh of relief.

And while she took care of the heat, Lei Qian arranged small flame balls like moths flickering in the air. He lit up the entire floor, making it easier for everyone to find their way in the dark.

“I have checked throughout the building,” said Wan Guo Fu. “There is nothing wrong with it. You all can sleep here without worrying.”

Lei Qian and the rest of the men had arranged everything that the women could need in their teams. Thus, the floor where Bai Meiyue was going to stay with the rest of the women was as comfortable as possible. There was even a waterbed where Shen Zhan and Meng Suisui were going to stay. It shook when turned on!

Lei Qian arranged everything neatly, and no one needed to bother with anything anymore.

After travelling for so long, everyone in the team was tired. No one said a word before heading to their spots to lie down and finish their naps.

Bai Meiyue also felt a bit tired. She controlled the temperature of the room before slipping into her bed. Pulling the blanket over her legs, she let out a yawn and turned to look at Lei Qian, who was watching the safe zone where Yu Miaomiao was supposed to be at the moment.

“Are you not going to sleep tonight?”

“No, I will go around the neighbourhood and survey the surroundings. We need to be sure that everything is safe and sound; we cannot trust anyone at this point.” Lei Qian knew that Bai Feng was a man of his word; since he said that this place was cleaned up for them, certainly, this place was safe. But Lei Qian would rather be safe than sorry. It was better to take all the precautions rather than be sorry.

Though he said that Bai Meiyue had a feeling that there was something he was not telling her. She narrowed her eyes and questioned, “Are you sure that is all there is?”

Upon hearing her question, Lei Qian turned to look at her. He didn’t say anything, but instead he walked over to where she was sitting and took her hands into his. The pad of his fingers brushed against the back of her hand and before Bai Meiyue could sense what he was doing, he leaned down and took her lips in one quick sweep. His sudden actions caused Bai Meiyue to flinch. She wanted to pull back, but before she could do that, Lei Qian reached out and cupped the back of her head.

Bai Meiyue’s frown only got even more intense after being kissed like this. So when the man pulled away, she asked him hurriedly, “Where are you really going? Tell me, what did Bai Feng even ask you to do?”

“I will be back in a few hours.”

“Don’t tell me that the attack is tonight?” Bai Meiyue asked, but she ignored the tingling sensation on her lips and looked at the man pointedly. She didn’t speak and continued to look at him. With one hand resting on her lap, she waited for Lei Qian to say something. But when he didn’t, her heart sank, and she reached out to hold his hand, but Lei Qian had already walked to the threshold of the room. He raised his hand and waved at her. “Don’t worry, I will be fine.”

Bai Meiyue, however, didn’t believe him. If Lei Qian truly believed that he was going to win, he wouldn’t have kissed her like he was a dying man fulfilling his last wish. She clenched her fingers and shouted, “You will definitely be fine… our son is waiting for you to return.”

Lei Qian paused, but then he continued walking. “Rest assured. I will definitely return.”

However, as he walked away, he didn’t look back. With his sword on his side, he walked past the door and closed it behind him.

Watching him leave, Bai Meiyue bit her lower lip. She knew that Lei Qian was stronger than he looked. Even if the man acted silly in front of her, he was proficient when it came to fighting and assassinating. He would be fine. He should be fine, and yet her heart couldn’t help but worry.

She turned to look at Ciyi and said to her, “Follow him.”
