Capítulo 721: The Arrogant Fool

Bai Meiyue turned to look at Xiao Wu, who was rushing up to her, and her willow-like brows furrowed slightly. She twisted on her feet slowly and waddled her way towards the man who was running towards her crazily. “What’s the matter?”

Xiao Wu walked over to where Bai Meiyue was standing and looked around. Many of the people working in the greenhouse turned to look at them, as the two of them were not standing in a place that was too secluded. Xiao Wu knew that this place was not good for the discussion, as many people were eavesdropping on their conversation. He slowed down his pace and came to a stop in front of Bai Meiyue before whispering, “There is something that my boys want to discuss with you. Can you come over?”

Upon hearing his response, Bai Meiyue knew that he was acting so discreetly because there was something that he wanted to talk to her about. She pursed her lips and nodded before walking back to the mansion with Xiao Wu. When the two of them returned, Bai Meiyue saw Lei Qian seated at the head of the dining table with the seat next to him empty. Bai Meiyue glanced at the empty seat and pursed her lips; she knew that Lei Qian had left that one seat empty for her deliberately.

She recalled her memories and realised that even though Lei Qian had done many wrongs in her past life, he had never —not even once given the place next to him to any other woman. The seat next to him had always been empty; even that woman was not given a chance to sit next to him.

That’s weird. Bai Meiyue thought with a frown on her face. She had doubted the existence of that woman in Lei Qian’s life for ages, but the more she delved, the more she realised that the woman didn’t hold much power or importance in Lei Qian’s life. But if that woman didn’t hold any importance, then why did Lei Qian allow her to stay beside her? What was he even thinking by letting that woman stay next to him? Why did he do that?

Bai Meiyue could not understand his actions and wanted to question his past self. However, there was no one for her to question —

“Yueyue?”

Bai Meiyue raised her head and turned to look at the man who was sitting at the head of the dining table with multiple charts placed in front of him. He tilted his head to one side and smiled at her softly. “What are you doing standing there, darling?” He stood up from the chair and then walked over to where she was standing. He took her hand and softly kissed the back of it, as his eyes softened; the love and affection that he had for her couldn’t be concealed.

Bai Meiyue felt her cheeks burn with a sudden, inexplicable heat, and her heartbeat suddenly turned erratic. She lowered her head and her fingers instinctively clenched. She couldn’t quite place her finger on these erratic feelings of hers, but she did understand them a little. Bai Meiyue was no novice when it came to love and love affairs, but she had long given up on these emotions. As she believed that there was no way she would fall in love with another man.

But now—Bai Meiyue suddenly had other thoughts, and boy, did she not like them.

What was she going to do—her heart —it was falling, and it was falling hard. No, it was a crash landing on a bumbling, idiotic buffoon who smiled like a clown.

Bai Meiyue sucked in a breath and closed her eyes to calm down her stupid, stupid heart. It had been bitten once, and yet it was prepared to jump down the same lane once again. She didn’t know what to make of the current situation.

She sucked in a breath and then walked over to the dining table with Lei Qian.

Xiao Wu and the rest were already sitting around the table with Bai Jixuan and Bai Zhan. She could hear her second brother explaining the intel that he had collected after infiltrating the area of the safe base where Yu Miaomiao was hiding at the moment.

“Let’s talk about the night when Dacheng and Chief Lin led their army to the safe zone to attack Yu Miaomiao. I have infiltrated the safe base many times to crack the code of what happened. It seems like Dacheng and his team have a spy or countless spies because Yu Miaomiao knew that they were coming for her. She escaped before the safe zone was attacked, and she took all the strong ability users with her. What Dacheng and Lu Yin have right now is nothing but trash that Yu Miaomiao didn’t want.”

“And they think that they made a profit,” Xiao Wu whistled as he leaned back on his chair and clicked his tongue. “Who would have thought that the ability users who made Dacheng walk on the clouds were nothing less than trash in Yu Miaomiao’s eyes?”

“It’s not surprising when you think about how this woman has more IQ than the three of them combined.” Bai Meiyue pointed out as she reached for the coffee mug, but her mug was replaced with a glass of milk before she could even touch the coffee mug. She turned to glower at the man who was holding the coffee mug, but Lei Qian was not scared at all; he even smiled at her with a hint of teasing in his eyes.

Bai Meiyue rolled her eyes and then turned to look at her second brother, who was still speaking.

“She just used the rest of the ordinary and weak ability users to create a symbolic resistance, and while they were diverting Dacheng and his team’s attention, she escaped with the rest of the ability users. As for the others, they were only supposed to protect her by diverting the attention of the enemy.”

“Then these ordinary soldiers —”
