Bai Meiyue knew very well that Yu Miaomiao was not going to leave her alone. If she dealt with these spies, that woman would send even more spies. It was better to keep the current ones and pretend that they had no idea about what was going on. At least they would have a better idea about what was happening. If they killed these spies, she didn’t believe that Yu Miaomiao would stop, and neither would the rest of the spies. So she might as well leave them alone for the time being.

“Ah?” Xiao Wu was surprised. He blinked his eyes and said to Bai Meiyue, “Is this okay? What if they cause trouble for us if we leave them alone?”

“Who can guarantee that they will not cause trouble if they are killed? Yu Miaomiao will not let it slide and she might even try to investigate how we got the names of the spies. That will put Xu Yiyi and the rest at risk. They have helped us so much; we cannot do them harm by putting them at harm’s risk. It is better to leave these spies alone for the time being. At least they will not cause much chaos until I give birth—”

“What are you doing?”

Bai Meiyue was still speaking when she heard a loud voice and turned to look at Tong Huan, who was glaring at Xiao Chenye. She noticed that the man was standing in front of Tong Huan with two buckets of fish in his hands and his head was lowered in embarrassment as he looked everywhere but at Tong Huan and her. Even though Bai Meiyue didn’t see what kind of expression the man was making, she had a very good idea that at that very moment, he was really embarrassed with whatever was happening to him.

She turned to look at Xiao Wu and said to him, “Go and bring those two here.”

She wondered what happened now for Tong Huan to become so angry. Bai Meiyue had a feeling that maybe Tong Huan was not even angry at Xiao Chenye. She was just angry at her brother, who was like a stupid block of wood who couldn’t even understand something so simple as making a woman happy. All he needed to do was to praise Tong Huan by saying some empty words and yet her brother couldn’t even do that. Should she say that her brother was too much of an idiot? Or should she say that Tong Huan was expecting too much from a person who was not good with words since he was a child?

Bai Meiyue wanted things to get better between the two but at the same time, she knew that it was impossible.

As far as she knew Tong Huan and her brother would have a rather hard time in the future.

She sighed when she saw Tong Huan glaring at Xiao Chenye, who was still holding the buckets of fish as if he was afraid that these buckets would be snatched away from him. It was clear that the woman was only taking her anger out on Xiao Chenye for no reason.

Bai Meiyue looked at the fish in the buckets and then turned to look at Tong Huan before asking, “Why are you scolding him? Did he do something wrong?”

“He is stealing the fish!” Tong Huan snapped at once. Earlier she had come to look for her hairpin that fell in the backyard when she saw Xiao Chenye scooping the fish out of the basin and walking away. She knew that this man was the bodyguard of that woman, who had been causing trouble in the safe zone for a while now and didn’t have any good feelings for him or the woman for whom he worked.

“No!” when Xiao Chenye heard the woman accuse him of stealing, he turned to look at Bai Meiyue and shook his head frantically. He said to her, “I didn’t steal these fish. I worked hard for them. Earlier this morning I came to look for work and your mother asked me to wash the laundry of your family and the workers. I have been working hard all morning and that’s how I got this fish in exchange. I didn’t steal them.”

After he finished speaking, he was a bit embarrassed and placed the buckets of fish down on the floor. Strictly speaking, Fu Wan had announced that she was not going to hand Bai Meiyue even a single crystal nucleus, and she was still greedy enough to eat these normal fish and sent him to grab some from Bai Meiyue. Fu Wan wanted him to steal but he was not willing and decided to work hard for them. Fortunately, Yan Wanning was a kind woman; even though she was still upset about the entire baby-switching drama, she was still kind toward others. Thus, she allowed Xiao Chenye to wash the laundry and then do some little household chores in exchange for these fish.

He had to admit that the Bai family was really kind. At least they were willing to exchange these fish for nothing even when they were so rare.

What Xiao Chenye didn’t know was that the Bai family was tired of having seafood. There was an extra reservoir built to just save and raise the seafood. How could they be worried about a few buckets of fish? It was equivalent to letting someone take a few drops from the ocean for them.

However, Xiao Chenye didn’t want to run into Bai Meiyue. Unfortunately, he ran right into her!

Bai Meiyue narrowed her eyes and looked at the fish that were still playing happily in the buckets and then raised her head to look at Xiao Chenye before asking, “You do realise that washing a few clothes is not enough for these fish in this time?”

Hearing her question, Xiao Chenye blushed heavily and nodded at once. He knew that what Bai Meiyue said was indeed right; there was no way this much was enough but what else was he supposed to do? He couldn’t get the crystal nuclei even if he wiped his neck clean and asked Fu Wan to chop it up in exchange for the money.
