Chapter 686: Return of Meng Anzhi

At the same time, Bai Meiyue woke up in her mansion. She closed her eyes and tried to focus her attention on the explosions that were getting closer with each passing second and sighed. It seemed like the battle was getting close to her safe base even when she wanted to avoid it. She sighed and got up from the bed. As soon as Bai Meiyue stepped out of the bed, she realised that the room had gotten really cold, all thanks to the air conditioning.

Usually, she didn’t feel cold upon waking up because Lei Qian was by her side but today, the man was missing and no one knew where he was or whether he had killed Yu Miaomiao or not. Given the explosions, Bai Meiyue knew that the chances were rather slim.

Sighing, Bai Meiyue shut the air conditioner down and then walked to the bathing room, where she took a quick bath and headed out of the room. Once she stepped out, she saw Lei Qian sitting in the living room, nursing a bullet wound on his shoulder.

“What happened?” she asked as Bai Meiyue hurried downstairs; she looked at Lei Qian, whose shoulder was bleeding profusely and immediately questioned Doctor Chou.

“It’s nothing serious.” Doctor Chou pulled out the bullet from Lei Qian’s wound and dumped it onto the metallic tray. He turned to look at Bai Meiyue and said to her, “It’s a shallow wound, but he was hit in the wrong place, which is why he is bleeding so much.”

When Bai Meiyue heard that Lei Qian was wounded, she felt uncomfortable all over; she walked over and took a look. Even though she knew that the wound was shallow, she handed Lei Qian the special ointment that she had made to stop bleeding. “Here, take it; it will help with the bleeding.”

Lei Qian looked at the ointment as if he were looking at a rare treasure; he curled his lips in a smile and took the ointment from Bai Meiyue before saying to her, “Thank you, my little wife.”

“Who is your little wife?” Bai Meiyue questioned with annoyance but there was no heat behind her words. She then turned to look at her brothers, who were looking weatherworn but were quite safe and sound. She asked, “what happened? Did you not find Yu Miaomiao?”

Bai Jixuan pulled the piece of cold fabric off his eyes and looked at Bai Meiyue. “That woman is like a rat. She actually dug more than four ways to sneak out of the safe base. You have no idea; we tracked four fleets of cars but we couldn’t find Yu Miaomiao in any one of them. All of those cars were actually carrying survivors. They were all tied up and gagged. We were lucky that Lei Qian only asked us to overturn the car and didn’t blow them up. Or else those people would have died without even getting a chance to say ‘help’.”

“Then you mean to say that you didn’t find Yu Miaomiao in any of those cars?” Bai Meiyue asked with a frown. She believed that with her condition, Yu Miaomiao would be killed sooner or later; she never thought that the woman still managed to survive.

“She is smart.” Lei Qian had to admire Yu Miaomiao even when she was his enemy. That woman was able to throw dust in the eyes of so many people who were waiting to kill her, which proved that she was not a fool and wouldn’t go down so easily. “By the way, someone from the survivors followed us yesterday. She said that she knew someone from the safe base and wanted to talk with her.”

“Who?” Bai Meiyue’s frown deepened. She didn’t know any survivors in the safe base where Yu Miaomiao lived. At least not anyone whom she would have left behind on purpose, even when they were kind to her.

“Meng Anzhi. She said that she was Meng Suisui and Meng Qibao’s cousin; she asked us to let her talk with them. Currently the three of them are talking,” replied Lei Qian.

When Bai Meiyue heard that Meng Suisui and Meng Qibao were talking with Meng Anzhi, her lips curled up in a bitter smile. These fools, did they not suffer enough at the hands of that woman? Why did they end up getting involved with her again? What were they thinking?

Though Bai Meiyue didn’t like the fact that the two siblings were acting so foolishly, she didn’t rush out to stop them. They were the ones in charge of their lives and she could do nothing to change their minds. If they want to be ruined, then let them be!

Lei Qian knew what Bai Meiyue was thinking. He immediately said to her, “Don’t worry. The Meng siblings don’t trust her. They have not allowed her to come inside the safe base and arranged for her to leave in an abandoned building outside the safe base. Even when she made a fuss. And I have also asked the leader of the special guards to interrogate Meng Anzhi.”

He had heard all about the good things that Meng Anzhi had done previously and there was also the matter of Meng Anzhi following Su Hu. That woman had joined Su Hu and Bai Xue and even betrayed her cousins once. A woman who could betray her family once could do it all over again. He didn’t dare to believe Meng Anzhi. What was more, that woman had stayed alive when most of the survivors had died. She might not be a simple character.

It was better to see what kind of intentions she had before letting her have that second chance. Not that she deserved it but he had no right to make that decision.

“You are right. We cannot let any more spies in the safe base; yesterday, those spies sent by Yu Miaomiao tried to attack me… they wanted to take Xiao Cai out of my belly after killing me.”
