Chapter 629: Blaming His Wife And Daughter

“How can that be possible?” Chu Xia shook her head. She hugged her daughter and said to Lu Xinran, “You are mistaken. There is no way she will do such a thing.” She lowered her head and noticed the hint of resentment in Bai Xue’s eyes, and suddenly, the confidence that she had started to wane. What did Bai Xue do?

“Pah! Do you think that I am lying? Of course not.” Lu Xinran rolled her eyes and then said to Chu Xia. “I am telling you, Madam Bai. The reason I and the rest of the team members are withstanding your daughter and her attitude is because you are Leader Feng’s family; if not, we would have left you behind in the wave of the mutated bugs. Do not test our patience. There is no such thing as being filial in this day and age. If leader Feng leaves you behind, you will not even find a place to cry.”

Lu Xinran was not exaggerating. They were in a perilous situation where she and the others couldn’t even eat enough to fill their stomachs; every day, they were only half full and yet Bai Xue had enough to eat, and yet she would complain about the quality and the taste of the meal every day. Like they had the time or means to worry about the taste of the meals that were being served to them.

With the current condition of their safe base, it was good enough that they were getting something to eat!

So how could Lu Xinran not be upset with Bai Xue, who was acting like a spoiled brat even though life was already hard for them? They already had it rough with the supplies dwindling. Did she think that she was still living in the same world before the end? That they could play along with her?

Lu Xinran snorted before turning around on her feet and heading out of the small apartment where the Bai family lived.

“Xue’er, what did you do?” Chu Xia waited until the woman was gone and then turned to look at her daughter. She glared at her heavily and questioned, “Did I not ask you to stay at home and not make Ah Feng angry? You know that he is the one who is taking care of us. If he loses his temper with us, then we will not be able to survive in this world.”

Bai Xue pushed her mother away. With her eyes narrowed, she glared at Chu Xia and said to her, “Would I have to do this if you or Dad could help me? I am doing this because you cannot do anything. Mom, do you even have any idea how hard this is for me?” Bai Xue exclaimed, her voice turning hoarse with tears filling her eyes. “That bitch is living a wonderful life. Do you know? She can eat meat every day. When was the last time we ate meat, huh? Do you even remember eating meat, Mom?”

“Oh, Xue’er—” Chu Xia reached out to hold her daughter, but Bai Xue was simply too far gone to care about the worry she was causing her mother. She pushed Chu Xia’s hands away and then stated in a quiet voice, “If you or father were any better, then I wouldn’t have to do such things. When I cannot eat or drink, do you think I will care about anything other than getting a mouthful to eat?” Did everyone think that Bai Xue had no idea about what was going on? Wrong. She knew it better than others. She knew that she was not going to awaken as an ability user. She knew that even if she tried her best, she would not be able to become an ability user. Even though she felt envious of Bai Meiyue and the other ability users, there was absolutely nothing that she could do.

Her body was not just up for it. Since that was the case, Bai Xue could only think of one way to get what she wanted. Hanging herself from a golden thigh. Only by getting a big-shot ability user as her protector would she be able to live a good life.

Without someone taking care of her, Bai Xue knew that she would die sooner or later.

That was the reason why she was trying to hook up with Lei Qian.

That man was not only strong but also handsome and responsible. He was totally her type of man. He had everything. So, how could Bai Xue let go of him? Too bad that Lei Qian was simply too loyal. He didn’t even look at her when she was almost dancing naked in front of him.

Chu Xia sighed. She placed her hand on Bai Xue’s head and said to her, “Xue’er, I know that you are upset. I do understand that you are hungry and having a hard time but you also need to understand one thing —other than Bai Feng, no one will take care of you willingly.”

“But–”

“I know,” Chu Xia interrupted her daughter. “I know that you believe that Bai Feng is not paying attention to you or that he is not giving you enough supplies. But Ah Feng is doing what he can – the supplies are not enough and that has led to the current situation.”

Bai Xue pouted. “Isn’t it his fault though? Who asked that man to betray Chief Yu? Since he couldn’t take care of us then, he shouldn’t have gone against Chief Yu. It’s all his —”

“Shut up!”

Bai Qingshi, who had been listening to Bai Xue chatter, could not help but sit up straight on the bed and glare at the woman. After going through so much, Bai Qingshi was no longer the same impeccably looking man whose face was filled with a kind of radiance. He now looked like a homeless man, with his hair matted and his face hollowed out. He stared at Bai Xue as if he were looking at his enemy.

“Dad?” Bai Xue stared at her father in shock. She turned and looked at her mother, who shook her head. Even though Bai Qingshi had said nothing to her, she knew that the man was upset and angry with her and Bai Xue. The reason was simple. Having seen Bai Meiyue live a wonderful life, Bai Qingshi was now upset and angry with her and Bai Xue.

She knew that Bai Qingshi was a selfish person through and through. But she never thought that he would actually blame her and Bai Xue for the sufferings that he was going through at the moment. But she severely underestimated the ruthlessness of this man! He was so shameless that he actually told her that if she had not urged him to scheme against his daughter, then nothing like this would have happened to him. He could have lived a good life with Bai Meiyue, who would have taken care of him like she was taking care of Yan Wanning.

He could have lived a life where he could eat and drink without a worry.

It was all because of her and Bai Xue, who fooled him that he was suffering. If not, he could have lived a good life.

Chu Xia had caught him muttering to himself countless times, where he often said the same thing over and over again. About how he should have stayed with Yan Wanning and how a little pain would have brought him great returns. That he made a mistake by marrying her and leaving Yan Wanning. Every word of his stung deep within her soul, but Chu Xia knew that there was no point in quarreling with Bai Qingshi.

This man was as useless as he could be. Even if he felt regretful now, there was no turning around this time around. Since they had already made countless mistakes, even if he wanted Yan Wanning to forgive him, the chances of it were close to none. Chu Xia was not bothered by this at all; the one thing that she was upset about was Bai Qingshi blaming her daughter. Bai Xue never said a thing to this man, nor did she ask him for anything. And yet Bai Qingshi still held a grudge against her.

“It’s nothing.” Chu Xia didn’t want Bai Qingshi to say anything harsh to Bai Xue. Her daughter was already having a hard time with her abilities not awakening. The last thing Chu Xia wanted was for her daughter to hear even more rude words from her own father, who should be taking care of her. She turned and smiled at Bai Xue before saying to her, “You go and take a nap, I will talk with your dad.”

Bai Xue frowned. However, when she looked at the expression of her father, she knew that he was not going to say anything good. Hesitating but not willing to listen to anything harsh, she nodded and returned to her room.

“Bai Qingshi—”
