Chapter 637: Chapter 637: Independent Woman
When she stepped inside, she was surprised to see that the entire mall was empty… completely closed off. The lights were dim, and soft music played in the background.
She was about to speak when she suddenly felt a gentle force pushing her forward. For a moment, she tensed up, ready to resist, but then she heard Qin Feng’s voice in her mind.
“Don’t resist, Jiyai. Just walk forward.”
Hearing his calm voice, she relaxed. The invisible force slowly guided her to the center of the mall.
When she reached the middle, all the lights suddenly turned on at once.
Su Jiyai blinked in shock.
She was standing on a small podium surrounded by decorations, balloons, ribbons, flowers, and glowing lights. On the big display screen above, there were photos of her from every stage of her life….even her childhood photos, where she was smiling brightly.
Her breath caught. “How did he even find these…?” she whispered.
Then she heard a voice behind her. “Do you like my surprise?”
She turned around and saw Qin Feng.
He looked incredible. His black hair was neatly styled, his blue sapphire eyes sparkled under the lights, and he wore a formal white shirt with a black blazer and pants.
He looked so handsome that Su Jiyai felt her heart skip a beat.
“Qin Feng…” she whispered, completely stunned.
He smiled softly and walked toward her. Then, in front of everyone, he slowly knelt down on one knee.
The crowd gasped.
He took out a small velvet box and began speaking, his voice calm but emotional.
“When I had almost become numb to human emotions,” he said, looking up at her, “and when I had almost given up on life… that’s when you appeared.”
Su Jiyai’s eyes widened.
“You were like a ray of hope,” he continued. “Everything that happened after I met you became a memory I never want to forget. If there are many lifetimes, I want to spend every one of them with you. Even if you become an animal or an alien or something completely different, I’ll still be your lover.”
Su Jiyai couldn’t help but laugh through her tears. “You sound ridiculous,” she said softly.
Qin Feng grinned. “Maybe. But it’s the truth.”
He continued, “There were times when I thought I’d never have a good ending, that maybe fate would take you away from me. But here I am, proposing to the woman who gave me a reason to live.”
Her eyes started to blur with tears.
He opened the box, revealing a beautiful silver ring with a blue crystal shaped like a teardrop.
“This ring,” he said slowly, “is for the girl who stayed beside me, who was strong, brave, and even when she didn’t understand something, she tried to figure it out on her own. It’s for the woman who saved humanity but still acts like she didn’t do much.”
Qin Feng’s voice shook a little.
“It’s for the woman who gave me her blood when I was dying, who found a cure for my burnt body, who hunted for herbs across dangerous places just to make me whole again. You, Su Jiyai… you’re the reason I’m still here.”
Su Jiyai covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. “Qin Feng…” she whispered, her voice breaking.
He smiled and said quietly, “So, Su Jiyai… will you marry me?”
For a second, everything around her disappeared: the crowd, the lights, the music. There was only Qin Feng, kneeling there, looking at her with eyes full of love.
Su Jiyai couldn’t hold it anymore. She nodded quickly, tears falling from her cheeks. “Yes! Of course, yes!”
The crowd erupted in cheers. Qin Feng stood up, placed the ring on her finger, and pulled her into a tight hug.
Everyone clapped and cheered loudly.
Jacob, who was watching everything from the sideline, couldn’t help but sob slightly.
His eyes were red, and his lips trembled as he turned toward Jake.
Jake gave a small, helpless smile and hugged him.
“It’s alright,” Jake said softly, patting Jacob’s back. “Su Jiyai was going to marry Qin Feng anyway. We should be happy for her.”
Hearing those words, Jacob’s sobs only grew louder.
“You don’t understand,” he said between sniffles. “I never got to see her childhood, and now I have to see her getting married? It feels so cruel. She grew up so fast.”
Jake sighed quietly. He couldn’t fully understand Jacob’s pain, but he knew that ache of regret too.
When he had learned about Su Jiyai’s true identity, guilt had hit him like a wave.
He remembered when she was small…how she’d followed him everywhere, her tiny hands holding onto his sleeve. He used to sneak her out of the house to show her “the real world,” even though it always got them into trouble.
He smiled faintly at the memory of one crazy day when he’d jumped off a tall building with her in his arms…just to show her what a “roller coaster for adults” felt like.
She had screamed the whole time but ended up laughing so hard her cheeks hurt.
Now, looking at the woman standing in her wedding dress, confident and calm, he felt a lump rise in his throat.
She barely remembered those times, and that hurt more than he expected.
‘If only I could go back,’ he thought sadly. ‘I’d spend more time with her… I’d make sure she never felt so alone.’
Not far from them, Qiang Zhi stood quietly, his eyes blazing with fury.
His hands were clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
Watching Qin Feng stand beside Su Jiyai made his blood boil.
He had searched so long to find her, only for her to now belong to someone else.
For a moment, the thought crossed his mind…to grab Su Jiyai’s hand, and stop the wedding proposal entirely. But reason caught up with him. His shoulders dropped, and his lips pressed together tightly.
He exhaled shakily. ‘This is her choice. I can’t take that from her.’
So, he stood still, forcing himself to accept the new reality. He could only watch as the celebration ended and Su Jiyai’s new life began.
That afternoon, Su Jiyai and Qin Feng officially registered their marriage. It was fast and simple.
They had skipped almost all the usual rituals, no big ceremony, no long speeches.
Both had been too busy with their research and data work to even think about the traditions. The only thing left now was their first night together.
And that… was what truly scared Su Jiyai.
When night finally came, she sat stiffly on the edge of the bed, her hands twisting in her lap. Her heartbeat was racing like crazy.
“Why am I nervous?” she muttered to herself. “This is fine. Totally fine. It’s just… the first night… of marriage…”
Her voice trailed off as she realized she didn’t actually know what was supposed to happen.
Sure, she had kissed Qin Feng and read some books, and once heard a few of Han Weilin’s “educational” explanations, which made no sense at all. But now that it was real, her mind went completely blank.
Qin Feng entered the room, looking a bit flushed.
He smelled faintly of wine and looked almost too calm, which made Su Jiyai even more nervous. “Y-you drank?” she asked, her voice squeaking slightly.
Qin Feng gave a small smile. “Not anymore.” He snapped his fingers, and instantly, the redness faded from his face. The smell of alcohol vanished too.
Su Jiyai’s jaw dropped. “You… drained it out?”
He nodded casually. “Copied a detox ability once. Comes in handy.”
She pouted, crossing her arms. “So unfair. If I had your copying ability, I’d already be a super entity by now!”
He chuckled softly. “You are still a super entity.”
She glared at him but couldn’t argue. He was probably right.
Before she could say anything else, Qin Feng said in a calm voice, “I’ll take a shower first. You can go after me.”
Su Jiyai nodded quickly, almost too quickly. “O-okay!”
As soon as he went into the bathroom, she jumped up and started rummaging through her things like a panicked squirrel.
“Okay, calm down, calm down,” she told herself. “You can do this. You’re a strong, independent woman. You’ve fought zombies, destroyed bases, and faced enemies. You can handle this!”
But when she opened her suitcase, her confidence vanished again. There were many types of lingerie inside her suitcase.
Han Weilin was the one who had ‘gifted’ them and promised that Qin Feng would be thrilled to see Su Jiyai wearing them.
After repeatedly going through all the lingerie, she fixed her sight on the most modest one.
It was just like her hair color and covered as much as she could.
Su Jiyai hurriedly picked it up. But what she didn’t know was that Han Weilin was much smarter.
She had already foreseen the entire scenario, and hence, she had bought lingerie that was worse than others but looked modest.
