Capítulo 470: Selene and Sol Kael’Dri

Ethan and Harley settled on the names Selene and Sol Kael’Dri, a pair of names that fit the twins so perfectly it felt as if the universe itself had whispered them into the parents’ ears. Even then, Ethan struggled, truly struggled, not to activate his Eye of Truth on his own children. A father should meet his newborns with wonder, not analysis… yet resisting was like asking a dragon not to breathe fire.

Because Selene and Sol weren’t just glowing. They were radiating, wrapped in a soft cosmic shimmer that flowed like stardust and moonlight. The lights flickered over their tiny forms in quiet waves, as if the cosmos hadn’t finished announcing their arrival.

Ethan held them close, cradling the pair against his chest, and swore he wouldn’t peek. He lasted exactly five seconds.

Their eyes shifted the moment they met their father’s gaze, first newborn-soft, then suddenly dilating into slit pupils, scales of color blooming around the irises like celestial storms. Selene’s settled into a deep, luminous violet, the color of the quiet edge between night and magic. Sol’s flared into a striking crimson-gold, like a young sun wrapped in dragonfire.

Harley laughed breathlessly, brushing her thumb over Selene’s cheek. “They’re showing off.”

“Can you blame them?” Ethan muttered, both terrified and impossibly proud. “First day alive and already breaking natural laws. My little troublemakers.”

The twins gurgled in perfect synchrony, one soft, one bright, tiny cosmic signatures pulsing with a rhythm that promised worlds would one day tremble at their footsteps. In that moment, wrapped in stardust and exhaustion, Ethan realized he wasn’t just holding his children.

He was holding two new celestial stories that had only just begun to write themselves.

…

The Kael’Dri estate buzzed like a hive dipped in liquid sugar, sweet, chaotic, and absolutely vibrating with energy. Childbirth always stirred a household, but this… this was something else entirely. The moment the news broke, the empire didn’t just celebrate.

It erupted.

Across the capital, banners unfurled from towers and skybridges, shimmering with holographic depictions of tiny Selene and Sol floating in silver and gold halos. Fireworks, both mundane and arcane, stitched bright ribbons across the sky. Hover-drones zipped around broadcasting baby giggles and celebratory music. People danced in the streets. Bars offered free cocktails. Even the stoic imperial guards had flowers pinned to their armor.

But the most unhinged-in-a-loving-way group?

They were already out in force.

The Cult of the Cosmic Twins had mobilized within minutes like a well-oiled, slightly terrifying machine. And the moment the news hit the ether, Ethan’s fanatics joined the charge with the enthusiasm of caffeinated zealots.

Together, they created a festival so large, so loud, and so aggressively cheerful that the palace had to raise three additional barrier layers just to keep the noise from shaking the newborns’ cribs.

Down every boulevard, cultists handed out flyers that declared THE STARS HAVE BIRTHED HEIRS! in shimmering text. Souvenir stalls popped up spontaneously, plush dolls of the twins with glowing eyes, tiny replica cosmic cradles, First Edition commemorative milk bottles, even baby socks embroidered with supernova patterns.

Somehow, Ethan would question this later; there were already holographic animations depicting Selene and Sol defeating imaginary universe-eating monsters.

And then the preaching began.

Cultists in galaxy-patterned robes stood on high platforms, waving their hands dramatically as they delivered sermons like:

“REJOICE, FOR THE COSMIC BALANCE HAS DOUBLED IN MASS AND CUTENESS!”

“BEHOLD THE CHILDREN OF STARFIRE AND MOONSHADOW! WITNESS THEIR ARRIVAL AND RECEIVE THEIR RADIANCE!”

“THERE SHALL BE DIAPERS OF DIVINE DESTINY!”

The fanatics added their own spice:

“THE EMPEROR HAS MULTIPLIED! CELEBRATE, YOU MORTALS!”

“WE HAVE TWO MORE OVERLORDS—PREPARE YOUR OFFERINGS!”

It should have been concerning. Honestly. Truly.

But Ethan, tired, glowing with fatherly joy, and still wearing a hospital visitor badge because he forgot to take it off, heard all of this as he stood at the balcony with Sol in his left arm and Selene in his right.

And he just laughed.

Because the world outside was celebrating with the same fierce joy burning in his chest. The empire was alive, bright, and buzzing with cosmic hope. It felt like the whole realm was dancing for his children.

A rare feeling for a father who had spent so much of his life fighting, bleeding, surviving.

He breathed out, soft, awed.

“Welcome to the madness,” he murmured to the glowing newborns in his arms.

And the festival roared even louder, as if answering him.

…

The corner they’d chosen was technically a storage alcove, but the Kael’Dri estate was so sprawling that even its storage spaces looked like expensive meditation rooms. Warm lights. Floating dust-motes. A portrait of some ancient ancestor who looked mildly offended to share his wall with two trembling siblings.

Regnare and Delphina huddled together on a cushioned bench like two conspirators plotting a coup, except their “coup” was… walking into a room and meeting babies.

Cosmic babies.

Their cosmic babies.

Regnare’s hands shook so hard his device kept slipping out of alignment. The device tried to compensate, but even the AI sounded anxious, whispering “steady… steady… steady?” in its robotic voice.

Delphina kept wringing her fingers until they squeaked. She was sweating enough that her forehead glistened like she’d been misted by a rainforest sprinkler, but she wasn’t scared. Not one bit. She was thrilled, ecstatic, overwhelmed with the idea that she now had two brand-new siblings who glowed like tiny nebulae.

She just… couldn’t figure out what to do about it.

“How do you even greet a baby made of starlight?” she whispered, voice cracking. “Do I bow? Do I salute? Do I just… wave?”

Regnare swallowed, equally miserable. “I don’t know! I literally filmed three minutes about how excited I was to meet them, but the moment the stream ended, I forgot how to breathe.”

He tugged at his collar. “Why do I feel like I’m about to sit for the Imperial Trials instead of saying hi to infants?”

“Their eyes changed color when I peeked earlier,” Delphina muttered, chewing her lip. “Reptilian. Violet. Like… like they can see through my soul.”

Regnare nodded vigorously. “Sol looked at me once, and I nearly confessed every stupid thing I’ve ever done.”

“Really?”

“I almost admitted to stealing Dad’s midnight snacks last two months.”

Delphina gasped. “Monster.”

“I KNOW!”

They sat in silence, united in mutual panic.

Somewhere in another room, celebratory music drifted faintly through the air. The estate vibrated with laughter, shouts, and the buzzing glee of the entire empire having a party like the universe had gifted them a holiday.

Meanwhile, the first two children of Ethan Kael’Dri, the kids who had faced storms and impossible trials, who had watched their father face down monstrosities without flinching, were too nervous to enter a nursery.

Delphina finally curled into Regnare’s shoulder.

“What if they don’t like us?”

Regnare patted her head with a trembling hand.

“They’re babies. They literally can’t dislike anything yet. Except maybe gravity.”

“I heard Selene stared down gravity for a moment before deciding to obey it.”

Regnare whimpered. “See!? She’s already cooler than me!”

His device pinged sadly, reminding him that the live stream was over. The adrenaline from performing evaporated. The shield of showmanship vanished. His brain rebooted into panic.

“We’re back to square one,” he croaked.

Delphina exhaled shakily.

“Maybe… maybe we just go in? Together?”

Regnare nodded, still pale.

“Together.”

They didn’t move.

Not even a centimeter.

Just two legendary heirs of the Kael’Dri line, paralyzed by something as adorable as newborn siblings.

The portrait ancestor on the wall seemed to sigh with disappointment.

…

A soft hush settled over the Kael’Dri estate as the moons climbed higher, tracing pale silver arcs across the windows. The halls, once bursting with voices and excited footsteps, had grown calm at last. Only a lingering warmth in the air hinted at the earlier chaos of celebration.

Regnare and Delphina stood outside the nursery door, feeling like two intruders about to break into destiny. Regnare finally lowered his holo-screen, realizing he had wiped three imaginary specks of dust off the lens in the last minute. Delphina’s fingers were curled into the hem of her robe, tugging and releasing, tugging and releasing, as if rehearsing courage in tiny loops.

Inside, they could hear tiny breaths. Not the thunderous presence of gods, nor the rumble of beasts, nor the roar of the world shaking in awe, but the softest, simplest inhale-exhale of newborns.

Regnare swallowed. “We can’t keep hiding in hallways forever.”

Delphina nodded, though her whole body trembled like a candle wick wrestling a breeze. “I know. I just… what if they don’t like me?”

Regnare let out a shaky laugh. “They’re literally a few hours old. They don’t even know what their own toes are.”

She smacked his arm, nervousness fracturing into a sliver of sibling bickering. “That’s not what I meant.”

“Yeah,” he whispered, softer now. “I know.”

He placed a hand on the door. She placed hers over his. And together, finally, they stepped in.

The dim, warm light revealed two tiny figures curled in enchanted blankets. Their small chests rose and fell with absolute trust in the world. No aura flares. No divine storms. Just… babies. Ethan’s babies. Their siblings.

Delphina moved first, slow, reverent, almost floating. She knelt by the crib and gently touched one miniature hand. The baby reflexively wrapped its fingers around hers. Her jaw trembled; tears clung to her lashes but didn’t fall.

Regnare pulled up beside her. For the first time since he’d been dragged into existence as one of Ethan’s cosmic anomalies, his breath caught in something fragile and human. He reached out, brushing a fingertip over the other twin’s soft hair.

Both siblings said nothing. They just stayed there, leaning gently against each other, letting the weight of the moment settle.

Delphina whispered, “We’re family now.”

Regnare exhaled a laugh that wasn’t really a laugh. “Guess we’ve got a lot to live up to.”

The babies shifted in their sleep, blissfully unaware that two nervous, trembling adults were melting into emotional puddles over them.

Regnare put an arm around Delphina’s shoulders.

“Tomorrow,” he murmured, “we can worry about being good siblings. Tonight… let’s just meet them.”

Delphina nodded against him.

And in that warm, quiet nursery, with two new heartbeats anchoring an ever-changing world, the Kael’Dri family grew, awkwardly, nervously, joyfully, into something stronger.
