Chapter 424: I Didn’t Know Old People Had Feelings

It was already morning, and the empire had returned to its usual loud and lively bustle. Merchants shouted, nobles strutted, and soldiers went about pretending they were busy. Almost no one knew the world itself had been lulled to sleep the previous night. Almost.

Because two individuals were currently walking around like they hadn’t caused a global incident.

And only a very suspicious Queen… and a highly disgruntled Crown Prince… knew just how long that night had been.

Regnare stood in front of his father, glaring as though Ethan had stolen his favorite treasure,, which, in a way, he had. Ethan simply responded with a lazy grin, eyebrows raised, daring the boy to say anything.

Across the room, Elaine sat surrounded by Ethan’s wives, all fuss and concern, while little Delphina happily sat on her lap, swinging her legs without a care in the world. Elaine calmly explained what had happened… carefully skipping the very intense parts.

PG-18 content wasn’t for little ears.

“Yo, my King! Looks like that ritual messed you up, huh?” Maverick’s loud voice shattered the peace as he strolled in, flip flops smacking aggressively against the marble floor, grey twin pigtails bouncing like chaos.

Stygian didn’t hesitate. Bonk.

“Be civilized for once. You’re the Gargoyle King, by Voryn’s name.”

“True,” Ethan nodded sagely, then flashed that taunting smile again, “but I can still beat you up.”

Maverick shivered in excitement. “Say less! We throwing hands now?”

“What exactly,” a sweet, venomous voice chimed from behind them, “are you planning to start with my husband?”

Maverick froze. “B-Big Sis…?”

Vaeloria smiled like a lovely executioner. “Well?”

“N-Nothing! I was just, stretching!”

“Good.”

“You are all so loud for a Monday morning…” Galeno grumbled, dragging his pillow as he shuffled in wearing pajamas.

“Good morning to you, too, Galeno,” Sage greeted politely, though his tone felt more like a threat by default.

Galeno ignored her completely. His gaze sharpened, golden light reflecting in his eyes as he stared at Regnare.”Oh? Young master is close to evolution. Very close.”

Gasps and murmurs. Regnare raised a brow as if to say: Of course I am.

Then Galeno’s attention snapped to Ethan.

“And master… your power…”

Everyone paused, eyes shifting to Ethan.

“It’ll take maybe… four months? Give or take,” Ethan admitted with a wry smile.

“Honey…” Harley murmured, worried.

“I told you this was a bad idea!” Trevor stormed in, holding Sixtie, whose stomach was visibly rounder, with Emily and Apole behind him.

“And I knew you’d try to stop me,” Ethan fired back instantly. “That’s why I knocked you out.”

Emily narrowed her eyes. “Something’s definitely up.”

“It’s your imagination…” Ethan replied too quickly.

“Says the guy who wouldn’t let Sixtie sleep last night,” Emily deadpanned.

“What did I do?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Sixtie said innocently, “Why don’t you ask Elaine?”

“You two were so loud,” Regnare added. “Didn’t know old people still had feelings.”

Several wives inhaled sharply.

Ethan stared at his son.

“I feel a strong urge to commit filicide…”

“Ethan Voryn Kael’Dri. What did you do to our little Elaine last night?” Barki asked, eyes narrowing with murderous intent.

“I suddenly remember I have a meeting with the ministers,” Ethan said, turning to leave.

“It was postponed to Wednesday,” Kaldaroth replied flatly from the corner, the man had been awake the whole time and looked like he regretted it.

Ethan glared. “Bro…”

“My king, that was your own command…”

“Come on, bro.”

“I appreciate the compliment, my king.”

Ethan pinched the bridge of his nose. “I need new subordinates…”

The room was already loud, but somehow the noise level spiked to “dangerous for human eardrums.”

“Ethan Voryn Kael’Dri!” Vaeloria cracked her knuckles. “Explain what happened. Now.”

“And choose your words wisely,” Asteria added with a perfectly calm and absolutely terrifying smile.

Barki crossed her arms, aura leaking out like a warning growl. “Or we’ll start guessing.”

“And our imaginations,” Harley chimed in sweetly, “are very creative.”

Elaine, still looking like she’d rather collapse back into bed for a century, raised both hands weakly.

“N-No fighting… please…”

Delphina just clapped. “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

“Delphina!” half the women barked.

Regnare coughed loudly, stepping forward like a tiny executioner. “Ladies, please. Allow me to remind you, I was the victim last night.”

Ethan turned to him slowly. “Victim?”

“Yes.” Regnare pointed accusingly. “You. Loud. Very loud. Did you swallow a megaphone in your youth?!”

“Son…” Ethan’s eye twitched.

“I thought the walls would collapse,” Regnare continued dramatically. “I almost called the Royal Engineers.”

Maverick burst into laughter. “Ohoho! Master unleashed the Divine Sloth Buster technique!”

Stygian sighed. “You have a death wish.”

Ethan took one step toward Maverick. Maverick squeaked and hid behind Vaeloria, the worst possible shield.

Trevor stepped in while carrying Sixtie bridal-style. “For the sake of my wife’s sleep, I demand compensation.”

“I demand triple compensation!” Emily added.

“Quadruple!” Apole declared as if he understood economics.

Sixtie nodded. “Their logic checks out.”

Ethan stared at his family, this circus he supposedly ruled.

“I saved the world from eternal sleep last night,” he muttered.

“And?” everyone answered in unison.

Ethan looked personally offended. “I want a refund on all of you.”

Onyx chose that moment to appear in a swirl of dark purple and black mist, dramatic as ever.

“Master,” she said with a smirk. “I heard your power waned. Should I take over the empire while you…”

Ethan immediately grabbed a shoe and threw it. Hard.

Onyx barely dodged. “Hey! I’m being respectful!”

“You came in with a coup announcement!” Ethan snapped.

Lusamine materialized beside Onyx, eyes glowing amusedly. “Oh? Ethan is weakened?” she purred. “What a rare opportunity.”

“You too?!” Ethan choked.

Barki cracked her neck. “Excellent timing. Join the interrogation.”

Elaine tried to slide off her chair to escape, but fell asleep halfway down.

“Elaine!” Several wives rushed to catch her.

Ethan took the distraction and started inching toward the door.

A hand landed on his shoulder.

It was Vaeloria.

He froze.

“Ethan,” she said calmly, “you’re not going anywhere until you explain every detail.”

Yup. He was dead.

Regnare crossed his arms smugly. “Justice.”

Ethan glared at him. “Just wait till you fall in love.”

Regnare’s ears turned red. “N-Never! I’ll be a pure warrior of wrath!”

Everyone in the room: Sure, you will.

Ethan inhaled.

He exhaled.

He accepted fate.

“Fine,” he said.

“I’ll talk.”

Everyone leaned in.

“Elaine awakened as the true Sin of Sloth,” Ethan began. “And her power nearly put the entire empire into a permanent dreamless sleep.”

“…Oh,” the room collectively muttered.

“Exactly,” Ethan nodded, proud.

Emily blinked. “Still didn’t explain the noises.”

Ethan: “…”

Regnare: “Got him.”

Barki slowly cracked her knuckles. Andriel rolled up her sleeves. Pisce’s wings twitched once, silently promising violence.

Ethan felt the shift in the room.

Predators…and him, the prey.

He smiled nervously. “S-So… what’s for breakfast?”

“GET HIM!” Sage yelled like a commander sending troops into battle.

Every wife lunged.

Ethan teleported.

He reappeared outside the room…

…and ran.

“After him!” Vaeloria roared, aura spreading.

Barki transformed mid-chase into her partial-beast form, claws ripping through marble tiles.

Trevor sighed dramatically. “Why do I always get dragged into this?” Then sprinted anyway.

Regnare cheered from behind, “Run, old man! Run!”

Ethan called back, “You’re grounded forever!”

Regnare cupped his hands. “You already tried that!”

Maverick and Stygian chased for the fun of it. Idiots of chaos.

Galeno floated after them on his pillow like a vengeful, tired genie.

The mansion shook as Ethan turned a corner, and almost collided with Zark.

His father sipped coffee, completely unfazed. “Morning.”

“Help me.”

“No.”

Ethan didn’t slow, just pivoted and kept running. Asteria teleported directly in front of him.

He yelped. Teleported again.

This time, he landed directly in the courtyard’s fountain, soaking himself.

Barki leapt at him, Ethan dodged, leaving her splashing behind.

Sixtie, half-asleep and very much pregnant, peeked out a window. “Can you guys not? I need sleep…”

Apole was filming with a holoprojection crystal. “Evidence for future blackmail!”

“STOP RECORDING!” Ethan shouted as he slipped, again, into the fountain.

Pisces appeared at the edge, eyes glowing. The water around him rose like serpent whips.

“Last chance,” she warned.

Ethan raised both hands. “Okay! Okay! I surrender!”

The water wrapped around him, suspending him mid-air like a soaked criminal.

His wives closed in. Regnare arrived too, pointing proudly like he had done something.

Ethan groaned. “All of this… because we were loud?”

“You shattered windows on the sixth floor,” Emily accused.

“You broke the sound barrier,” Barki growled.

“You woke the dragons,” Vaeloria added.

“You knocked me out of bed,” Regnare hissed.

Ethan blinked. “…Okay, I’ll admit that one was kinda funny.”

The wives all narrowed their eyes.

Ethan coughed. “…A misunderstanding?”

Eleven deadly stares.

He wilted instantly. “I’m wrong. Wrong forever.”

Asteria smirked. “Good.”

…

The morning had just started, and the Kael’Dri household was as lively as ever… if “lively” meant half the family passed out on the courtyard tiles like they’d lost a battle against pillows.

Sunlight glimmered over the aftermath, Maverick snoring with his face in a flower bush, Stygian awkwardly draped over a fountain statue, and Barki curled like a sleeping dragon on the grass. Asteria had fallen backward in such a way that, even unconscious, she looked dignified. Regnare drooled on his royal cape, muttering, “Not old… just noisy…”

Castle staff tiptoed around the bodies with practiced ease.

This was normal.For them.
