Chapter 421: My Sleeping Beauty (#r18 Loading…)

Xander lounged on his sofa, one leg crossed, head tilted back as he stared at the ceiling, bored out of his mind. His mother had left to retrieve Gluttony, and silence had swallowed the palace.

But then…

A sensation struck him. Soft… cold… and impossibly familiar.

His breath hitched. His pink eyes widened. His demon aura flared in a violet ripple before he could stop it.

“…Elaine…?”

The name escaped him before thought could catch up.

The very air trembled, not violently like Wrath’s presence, not seductively like Lust’s own nature. No…This was stillness made into power. A hush so profound that even his heartbeat seemed embarrassed to continue.

Xander sat up fast, hands gripping the cushions beside him. A chill rolled down his spine, and yet it wasn’t fear. It was recognition.

The Seven Sins were threads in a single tapestry. And one of those threads had just turned into a pillar.

The mark of Sloth had awakened.

Xander’s mind flooded with emotion, relief, excitement… and an unexpected pang of envy. Elaine… had taken her place before he had even claimed the respect he sought from his father.

A pulse echoed again, through the walls of Helheim itself. He felt her exhaustion, her surrender, but beneath it lay infinite strength, the kind that didn’t need to prove anything.

He could almost see her in his mind: pale, serene, eyes half-open as though the world demanded too much…and refusing to meet its demands.

His fingers curled, his aura thrumming.

“So you’ve finally awakened… Belphegor.” He spoke her new name softly, reverently, as though saying it too loudly would wake a sleeping god.

A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. Not playful. Not lustful. Proud.

“Wait for me,” he murmured into the empty room. “Once Wrath awakens… I’ll come to you.”

He leaned back once more, a calmer aura settling around him, but there was no mistaking the fire now burning behind his beautiful eyes.

The Seven were rising. Their bonds were tightening. And Xander Asmodeus Beaumains, Sin of Lust, felt his destiny breathing down his neck.

Elaine had taken her throne in stillness. Now it was his turn to move.

…

In a world of freaks and supernatural power, it is common to have anomalies who wouldn’t even be affected by the power of Sloth. And one such anomaly was currently walking towards Elaine’s chamber.

Ethan had visited the Will Clan and had a council meeting with them. Some had failed to recognize him, mostly the new members, as the image of him they knew was when he had red hair and golden eyes.

Now he was different. The meeting had been long, and nighttime had arrived, but who would’ve thought that everyone would just go to bed instead of celebrating?

It was very confusing to him, but he didn’t dwell much on it. He teleported home, only to find out the same was happening here, prompting him to spread his senses all over the empire.

Everyone was asleep! There were a few exceptions like Asteria, his father Zark, and Sixtie, who was actually asleep in the normal way. She was pregnant after all. Regnare was also half asleep, half awake.

What shocked him the most was that Trevor and even Barki, who could be said to be of the same or even higher level than Ethan, were all affected by the strange phenomenon.

His golden right eye lit up slightly, the scenery shifting as the false layer of reality peeled away. Truth poured into his mind, enough to shatter lesser wills like porcelain. But for him? It was child’s play.

‘This is why the system tempered my will first…’A quiet thought.A memory of agony now understood.

And then he saw it…

An ocean of icy blue ethereal mist, stretching endlessly across the empire, falling over cities and valleys like the gentle hand of oblivion.

A power that whispered:

Rest.Stop.Sleep.Let the world move without you.

Sloth incarnate.Belphegor’s silent domain.

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

“…Elaine.”

Even as he whispered her name, his steps carried him toward her, undeterred, unaffected. If the world slept, then he would be the one to wake it.

And he would start with her.

…

Before long, he arrived at Elaine’s chamber.

He didn’t knock. He didn’t even touch the panel.

The door opened on its own.

The moment he entered, the temperature dropped noticeably. The room, floating furniture, holographic curtains, and polished metallic walls had frozen in time. A glass of water hung motionless in midair. Even the soft lights seemed to have stopped flickering.

His eyes locked onto the center of the room.

Elaine.

Or rather… what she was becoming.

She lay there in a cocoon of blue mist, asleep yet radiating such suffocating stillness it made the world itself hesitate. Her hair, now a misty gray, drifted gently like clouds. Her skin was paler than moonlight. A glowing blue mark pulsed on her forehead, the crest of Sloth.

Her eyelids were half open, silver irises barely visible beneath heavy lids. She looked exhausted. Eternally so.

She was naked, but there was nothing suggestive about it, simply the result of a transformation that refused material constraints. Only the soft glow of Sloth’s aura covered her form.

Ethan stopped two steps away from the cocoon, his expression tightening.

“Elaine,” he called quietly.

No response.

The pressure around him intensified, urging him to lie down, close his eyes, and let go of existence. A power that commanded even the heart to slow.

He resisted with ease.

“Belphegor…” he muttered under his breath.

The chamber shook.

A crack slithered through the air itself. The floating water droplet fell and splashed on the ground. The lights flickered alive again. Time regained meaning.

Elaine breathed out, a small sigh escaping her lips, tired beyond mortal comprehension.

Ethan raised a hand slightly, not touching her, but enough for his warmth to brush against the barrier of mist.

“Wake up,” he said, his voice low. “You’re scaring everyone.”

Her eyelashes fluttered. Her silver eyes opened a bit more, meeting his mismatched golden-silver ones.

“…Ethan…?”

Her voice was barely audible. Weak. Yet the weight behind it could have lulled a god to eternal slumber.

Blue mist surged outward at her whisper, a wave of Sloth that crashed against Ethan’s presence like nightfall against dawn.

And he didn’t even blink. He just bent down and kissed her soft lips.

“My sleeping beauty…”
