Capítulo 1759: Huge Construction Projects! (Part 1)
The next day, Phase One of the mega construction projects was finally initiated. There were two zones that’d be developed during this phase.
One was a mid-rise residential area on the western side of the rotunda. Another was the expansion of the industrial and agricultural area in the Eastern regions.
Of course, except for the purchase of system buildings which were automatically deducted from her own pockets, the funding here was mostly from the bank.
After all, she…was poor now. Fortunately, it was recovering swiftly. After all, Alterra never slept, and the taxes alone were filling up her wallet quite well.
Another source of funds was the Mercenaries who were jumping at the chance to lease their lot. The lease was 10 years, and they had to pay all of this in advance before they could start construction. With this, funding phase one was no problem.
They laid the road system first. The avenues were already there, and so were the main utility lines. They’d expand and branch out from there.
For the flatter areas, it was mostly gridiron, but the ones with varying slopes followed the terrain. The area they covered was much bigger now, covering a larger part of the mountains, so naturally, they had to adjust in those areas.
They set up Cart Stops every few blocks. There were laybys here, and these would be safe areas where people and carts could drop off and take passengers.
However, while they were still developing, it would be too much to assign some carts to go around when traffic wasn’t that much yet.
So, if there were passengers, they just had to press something on the post. It was a whistle of sorts, which was what Althea pressed back when she fetched the two alchemists. It was similar to the Howlbreaker that irked beasts, and was actually a variant of that.
Someone from the Research Center simply had to run some calculations through the computer, figuring out the arrangement for broats. This way, the broat carts would have a set path along the avenues, and would make the necessary detours if there was someone who activated the whistle.
The downside was that multiple carts could be attracted, but since there wouldn’t be too many carts on the outer roads for a time, this shouldn’t be a big problem.
Next, they designated parks and smaller commercial zones, also within every few blocks. This would properly spread out foot traffic, avoiding any uncomfortable clusters, except, of course during big events and things like that.
To make up for the consumed parks in the interior walls, they added extra parks right outside the inner walls and added gates so the people from the interior walls would have better access to them. There were moats in some areas (leftover from the war), anyway, and it was a great add-on to their parks.
By the way, the landscaping team was having a lot of fun. They had representatives when they were doing the urban planning, and they were quick to claim some blocks on the map to assign as parks.
There were also smaller park lots here and there, especially when the neighborhood had mid-rise buildings, which meant the density of the residents was higher, so they could have their own parks.
Some assigned green lots were high-potential (in terms of income) lots too, but the landscape architects managed to convince everyone to turn them into parks with passion and…stubborness.
Heck, someone even lay down on the floor in protest.
It wasn’t an entirely easy decision, though. After all, many of these lots would’ve made a lot of money if they were zoned as revenue-generating lots.
Of course, it also required a decision-making team that was willing to let go of profit for the overall health of the territory. Most people certainly couldn’t.
Each green lot would be a park, and amusingly, the landscape designers already had several perspective drawings prepared to sell their idea. There were arcades, artificial waterfalls, bird feeders/baths, garden beds, decks, gazebos, more artificial lakes, and so on.
Although Alterra Gardens remained the largest and most sophisticated garden in the territory, these smaller versions were not too far behind.
“Don’t you already feel energized just seeing this?” they asked, showing off their sketches, selling their ideas like professional salespeople. “Imagine going home after a tiring day of hunting and passing by this place on the way home.
“They’ll be reenergized, happy, and—most importantly—productive!”
There was even a very large park in one of the areas that would not be developed yet, probably for phase 2. They said that, someday, they were planning on developing it into an amusement park.
Of course, they didn’t have the technology to make big machines yet, even if it was just the fair-sized rides, but a provision was a provision, and it shouldn’t be impossible to achieve with the pace the research teams were going.
Who knows, right? They might surprise themselves.
Eugene, in particular, seemed particularly invested in this and volunteered er, dedicated a part of his team to researching the machinery required. He said that he wanted his child to experience it while he was still a child, which was an adorable motivation indeed.
It was an ambitious plan, but it would probably come to fruition within the next couple of years.
Later, when she told this to the elder alchemists (she had to detail them well because they had never had something even similar to an amusement park before), they mentioned the dwarves might have the technology to expedite things.
They were really an interesting race. Their problem was their slowness (and their stubbornness), but combined with the engineers of Alterra, who knew what could happen?
…
A/N: So I’m drafting a few stories, all with 10k words each already, and wondering which one to pursue in Q2 of 2026 (after the side project finishes).
-(MMC) Oasis in Desert Apocalypse LitRPG
-(FMC) Urban Apocalypse story with ultra space user FL non-LitRPG
-(MMC) ChildMMC rebirthed from a naive alien race, using tech he has to create a base
The Interstellar planet-building one is for Q2 and already assigned to another platform.
Which one would interest you most, just by these? xD Too long to write a synopsis lmao
