Chapter 1741: New Elders’ Ceremony Continues
The new Department of Intelligence, led by Loki, focused on internal and external security, espionage, and counter-intelligence.
The offices here included Office of Domestic Security (including monitoring of satellites), Office of Foreign Intelligence (which sifting through and consolidating data from every other territory), Office of Surveillance and Reconnaisance, and Office of Threat Assesment and Response (in terms of threats humans or other races can pose).
Like the Military Department, the people chosen to lead the offices were Terran soldiers.
It wasn’t that they were being biased, and they were open to hiring aborigines, especially since many of them were much more powerful than they, but leading offices that affected so many needed more than just pure strength.
Of course, in the future, this could change, especially when the aborigines learned more about the processes.
The next department was the Department of Finance and Treasury, led by Ramil. It had Offices for Budget and Planning, Taxation and Revenue, Public Expenditure, Monetary Policy and Banking, and Economic Strategy and Forecasting.
The Officers assigned here were all in the accounting or banking industry back in Terran. This was much too sensitive a field to hire anyone else. As such, Ansel was removed to handle a different, more fitting department. As a relatively business-savvy individual, however, he’d still serve as an advisor to them.
There were also specialized courses in the adult school, focusing on this field, for future generations. This was to ensure that there would be talent ready to take over whenever someone retired, or operations expanded and needed more people.
They also requested their own computers for calculation purposes, and the Research Center, at least, promised them a good number of calculators to help them out.
The next department was the Department of Culture, which would be led by Ansel. This might seem a bit superfluous to some, but this department had a very deep meaning and a lot of long-term gains.
It had the Offices of Arts and Performance, Festival and Public Events, Public Morale and Propaganda, and the Languages and Customs Registry.
The mission and vision of this department were not only to feed the spiritual needs of the people, but also to spread awareness, to ensure solidarity and patriotism, and so on.
In the end, the best way to ensure unity was to have the same core values.
And how to encourage the development of the same values? Through practice, culture, and tradition!
This would be Ansel’s role. Fortunately, he was a die-hard fan of Althea and Alterra, so he was really the best dude for the job.
The Education Department, led by Rosalind, was divided according to the educational levels as seen in schools, including the ones adults could take. They were also in charge of determining the skill sets Alterra would likely need in the future, and encouraged classes for those.
For example, since they found a new resource, classes on how to handle a process might become available in the future. Right now, one of the more popular classes was blacksmithing as well as tailoring.
There was a saturation in the cooking-related industry now, so it was not as promoted as before. It was a self-promoting field now, and did not lack class takers regardless of whether they advertised it or not.
After all, even if they didn’t get jobs in Alterra (though this would take a while, since it was still expanding), other territories would be scrambling for them.
The Health Department, led by Volohov, had the Disease Surveillance Bureau, the Office of Healers and Healing Alchemists, the Office of Pharmacy, and so on.
Also included here were food-related regulatory measures that would ensure that the people in the territory and the satellites were following protocols for the safety of the masses.
Ingredients themselves might not be harmful, but processed in a certain way or combined with others could be, and those ‘normally harmless’ existences would not be blocked by the rules, so they had to assign pharmacists and nutritionists who focused on these things.
The Department of Construction and Infrastructure was led by the newly-minted Oslo, and under him were Civil Engineering, Architecture and Interior Design, Urban Planners, Landscape Architects, Mechanical Engineering Offices, and so on.
Oslo had a lot to learn, especially when it came to Terran techniques and knowledge, so all of his deputies were Terrans who were professionals in their respective fields.
Despite the lack of training, Oslo was still chosen to lead the department because of his occupation, his rank and strength, and—most of all—his willingness to adjust, listen, and learn from his subordinates.
The Department of Internal and External Affairs was led by Mathilda, as always, and the offices were divided into Civil Order and Oversight Council, Foreign Embassy Directorate, Office of Immigration, and so on.
Administration works like those who were in charge of the Center, and the others with system access would fall under this department as well.
Transportation issues were also placed under this, for now, making it the busiest Department with the largest building.
Interestingly, Jun was not part of this anymore. He was assigned as an Officer for the Judiciary Department.
He was not the most experienced lawyer due to his youth, but he was talented, diligent, a good guy, and had been with Alterra during its early stages of existence.
That said, although he was an officer for now, he was actually the top contender for becoming the Minister of Judgement. He had shown his skills in this field.
They just wanted him to handle the job with less pressure for now. Anyway, the system would take a bulk of the work, and the more sensitive cases would require several ministers to make a verdict, so the decision regarding the minister position here wasn’t too much of a rush.
The Department of Science and Technology, where the Research Center was from, was led by Althea. This included every study related to Flora, Fauna, and the other resources found in Xeno.
The Meteorology Office and Resource Management Office were also under this department.
Things like weapon development, equipment innovation, and so on were also placed here. In that sense, Eugene was delegated to the Deputy Minister role, not the Minister of a separate department, which he preferred anyway, as this would allow him to focus more on the research than the administrative aspects of the job (which he really didn’t care for).
Their scope was not limited to Alterra itself. They would also be in charge of their own scopes in the satellite villages, too.
After Mathilda finished the introductions, she wrapped the speech with a lighter tone. “Each one will bring their unique perspective and strength to their roles and— together— we will form a team that the entire territory can rely on.”
“Let’s welcome them properly and look forward to the work we’ll accomplish together.”
The banquet began after the applause with the new ministers and leads going around and socializing, perhaps even gaining some insight and future plans to their new roles.
Regardless of what role they were assigned, everyone was determined to make the most of it.
Alterra was their home, and it could only grow. They hoped to keep being a part of it!
