Capítulo 1727: Heading to Another Reunion

Another reunion story… was none other than Survivor #001, Galleon, who was also one of the cure’s recipients.

The slaves in Flaret that Gian rescued were sent to the Terran region by batch, some sent ahead of others. It happened that Galleon—who was in no condition to travel at the time—was part of the group temporarily left behind.

His departure was scheduled along with the Alterrans who were sent to Flaret to spy (except for Rowan, who had long left because of his new assignment), so he was a week later than the rest in reaching the Terran region. He was not privy to this, though.

In his muddled mind, nothing was really registering. All he knew was that the people in the house were reduced (by how much, he did not know), then there was a war, and…that was it.

Gian just left them in the house with enough resources to stay quiet, all while he was barely home himself, busy preparing for the upcoming battles, so they really weren’t privy to details.

Some knew that the others had been rescued, and those who had been left behind—mostly due to mobility issues, like lacking a leg—knew they only had to wait, but Gideon was pretty much lethargic in the room, eating what was given to him and not really caring for anything else.

While his brethren were moving on to better lives, he was wasting away on the floor, shivering from the withdrawals.

At the time, he just wanted to give up—like he always did. Too bad Gian had commanded him to eat properly, drink properly, and do every basic thing he needed for his own survival, so he didn’t even have the right to that.

He was barely lucid when the war started. He could just hear the few others in the same house talk with varying levels of concern in their voices. “If Flaret loses, would the winning territory be a better choice for us?”

“I don’t think so? We’re already settled here and Gian…should already have plans.”

“Either way, I hope we end up in good places.”

This was always the case for slaves. Regardless of whether they were fighting or not, the question was always how their next master would be, but with fewer expectations.

Gideon was tired and just lay down pitifully until Gian reappeared and told them the war was over, Flaret won, and that it was time for them to go.

They headed out of the house and, for the first time since they came here, they walked openly. Without the need for coats, without the need to hurry their pace, and without having to look behind them.

What they saw outside made them flinch a little—the blood on the streets, the various traces of intense battles—but it wasn’t anything they hadn’t seen before, maybe just a bit more intense.

They blankly followed after him to wherever he was taking them, but at some point, some unfamiliar people met with him and stopped them on their way to the gates. There were also a few he actually recognized.

They were definitely soldiers. Terran soldiers, and he thinks he had seen some of them from a distance before, though they were not close enough to be called greeting acquaintances.

Even with his muddled mind, he watched as they approached Gian, raising a hand. “The token?”

“Here,” Gian said, unceremoniously handing a glimmering token to the soldier, who in turn took out a similarly glimmering wood-stone box from his space.

Before putting it in, the soldier paused and looked at Gian. “Are you sure you don’t want to keep it?”

“Please sell it and just give me my share, as agreed on.”

The soldier nodded, placed it in the box, and held it securely in his hand. Meanwhile, the rest of the slaves gaped.

Was the token they were talking—by some chance—about the token?!

…

At some point, they realized…that it really was the Lord Token! Somehow, Gian managed to obtain it, and that he sold it to the town they were heading to—a Terran town by the way—and that the war itself was something they planned!

Terrans were the masterminds behind the war between the powerful aborigine towns?!

On their way to the Terran region—apparently the area where Terrans transferred, now more or less in their control—they would overhear some people (mostly those who were sent as spies) talk about the war.

For example, they’d laugh about how easy it was to get in, how many mercenaries each side had—and how useless they were in the end.

…they’d even talk about how much popcorn they ate while watching, and what flavor tasted best…

The discussions were vague, but it was enough to confirm they really had something to do with the fall of Flaret.

Slowly, even if he was weak, Gideon’s eyes gained clarity as he looked out to see the evil territory, happy to know that many evil people had perished in the war.

Later, they’d find out that it didn’t seem like Gian—or any other Terran— was planning on taking the territory; they were in disbelief.

Wouldn’t it be better for a fellow Terran in that position? They were even willing to sell the token to aborigines!

However, as slaves who were made meek by circumstance, they did not question out loud. They just followed and listened. Fortunately, they were treated as humans, given food and drinks, and there were no inhumane commands given to them.

In their case, they were to be taken directly to the ‘head’ territory called Alterra, which would take several days to travel on foot.

They passed by several territories, all under the flag of Terran and Alterran, and through eavesdropping on conversations and friendly chatters, Gideon found out that Alterra was behind more things than they thought.

After suffering so much, even if he was once a high-ranking soldier, it was a bit unbelievable. At the same time, the long-lost feeling of hope lit up.

Others weren’t in a pit of despair like he was.

Thanks for reading!!
