Capítulo 1713: Mafo Falls
Flaret Town was the Town getting attacked, and they did not have resources to make a counterattack (since the enemy really sent a large force at them), but the attacking territory was actually not so peaceful either.
In Voumi, the state of the warehouse was similar. The difference was that Mafo was still trying to open it.
Mafo had taken over the Lord’s token only around a decade ago. During that time, they had not been in a war. He was also high as a kite, so his first thought was peacefully snorting white happiness in the warehouse while this was all ongoing.
Anyway, they were the attacking territory, and the main bulk of the war was not happening here, but elsewhere, so they were annoyed, but not too panicked.
Although it’d be a challenge, he believed the assistance from allies and subsidiaries, including from Baccal Town, was sufficient.
He was just a bit bitter that he had to share one-half of the existing powder found in Flaret. The only comfort was that the technology, the experts, and so on would be his. Still, one half was huge, and would’ve fixed a lot of problems immediately.
But what could he do? He didn’t know how those people from Baccal Town knew so much about his town, but they even found details about their financial situation.
The mercenary teams they sent were actually not that many. However, they gave large discounts for the weapons, which was their specialty as a metalworking town, and now at least half of their forces were equipped with D-class weapons!
However, he believed that when he got the technology and the talent, then he’d just make up for it and create more in his own soil, making as much of that money-making product as he could.
But that didn’t mean he was willing to put himself in danger! What the heck is this?! This is new technology, and it was so troublesome!
Must be something from the city again, and must be expensive!
“DAMNIT! That territory garnered too much support thanks to those powder!!” he yelled, cursing at it. He 100% believed this chaos was from either Flaret or Valov.
“DAMNIT!” He cursed again. The more he thought of it, the more certain he became.
He unconsciously gripped the token in his inner pockets. He was surrounded by loyal guards under oath, so he was not too exposed, but he couldn’t shake off the bad feeling that something he didn’t know was happening.
Being high meant he was extra sensitive and was particularly antsy. It was like there were monsters right over his shoulders. Maybe there was.
He turned to some of the guards, voice cracking in panic. “CALL ALCHEMISTS AND EVERY EXPERT WE HAVE!”
Their alchemists and experts, as well as some curious visitors, now stood outside the warehouse.
They were trying to figure out this new thing, and how to open it up for the Lord.
Some alchemists tried to gather samples, but it wasn’t easy, and it burned through some of the containers!
Some alchemists even had the audacity to admire it!
“This is amazing. This will revolutionize warfare!”
“Indeed! If people could block the Lord’s safest place, then the tokens could be gained much easier!” another said, “This is assuming they were outside when the war began.”
“Do you see the movements of the smoke near the door? I think it enters the warehouse, too.”
“What?”
“Amazing.”
“No, that is dangerous.”
“Where in the world did Flaret get this?”
“They probably exchanged a lot of powder for it!”
“Perhaps they could’ve created it themselves! They did create those powder—”
“Is it possible? It could affect even the Lord, who is past level 40!!”
Mafo gritted his teeth at this, looking at his other hand, which was still stinging from the poison.
As he cursed in his head, the alchemists continued to talk about it.
“How do they apply it, however?” another said, just before Mafo exploded and killed one of them. “Surely it didn’t appear out of nowhere?”
This made Mafo flinch, realizing the truth behind it. Those bastards definitely had to apply this manually!
“Yes! The person who did this must still be here!!” he gasped. “FIND HIM!!!
…
They were never found, of course.
Rather, the war raged on, and the hours passed by, and no progress was made.
Mafo had no choice but to give up hiding in the warehouse and head to the palace to hide instead.
He had always been dependent on the warehouse to hide in situations like this, so he had no alternative but to consider a safe place outside his own castle.
He was surrounded by his guards and mercenaries, just in case assassins from either Flaret or Valov were around. Maybe both. Just the thought of those people ganging up on him made him so angry he wanted to skin people.
However, his remaining rationality stopped him from doing so. At least while the war was ongoing, he needed as many people from his side alive than not.
He did feel increasingly lethargic, however, and he thought it was just as well that he was heading back to his well-guarded room to rest.
Unexpectedly, the heaviness in his body from before the war was exacerbated when he entered his room.
“What…”
He felt extremely dizzy. At his level, this wasn’t something he had experienced after a long time.
He opened his mouth, but only croaking came out. He didn’t think this would kill him, but he couldn’t move, nor could he speak.
He concentrated his aether, forcing his body to fight against it. It could’ve worked if he had given a few more minutes, except the door opened, and he saw his guards in a similar situation, and a few people entered.
They were wearing masks, but not too thick, and apparently enough to handle the poison floating around.
They walked over and hovered above him, looking down. Mafo couldn’t see their expressions, but it made his insides boil in anger anyway.
“Whoa. It really worked!”
