Capítulo 1712: Where is the Flaret Token? (Part 2)

Felipe smiled as he hid away, token in hand—inside its Token Guard—and just waiting for the war to end.

After so many months, he had already bought off the Elders, and they trusted him, especially when they witnessed how it was he, Felipe, who raised Flaret to its current state.

He not only introduced these money-making products, but he was also the one to organize their forces so they would retain their strength. He was also the one responsible for securing everything, making sure they weren’t so exposed to outsiders, at least prematurely, until they were ready.

This was not an easy task, and there were plenty of almost-leaks, but his procedures, security measures, and foresight had never before seen in Xeno, and people were just left in awe, even the arrogant elders.

He was also the one who had negotiations and deals with the strong mercenary teams. It was he, Felipe, whom those strongmen had truly befriended, not the useless Lord.

He remembered the annoyances of trying to coax the token out of the useless pig’s hand. But he did, convincing him that it would only bring him danger. He, Felipe, had taken an oath to protect him after all, so he could trust him.

Fortunately, Peaco was high as a kite to think too much. The promise of an even better drug made Peaco—who had been conditioned thoroughly by him—ecstatic and believe whatever he said.

Felipe then asked him to hurry and hide in the warehouse instead. He would deal with what happened on the outside.

Felipe’s plan was to make the enemies believe the token was with Peaco and put all their attention on the warehouse, not realizing it was a red herring.

Felipe was focused on covering his own tracks then, not knowing what happened to Peaco, nor did he care.

How was he supposed to know that the door to the warehouse had been blocked? It was an extremely gooey substance that, if touched, would temporarily paralyze whoever touched it.

If someone tried burning it out, it’d release toxic gas instead, making things worse!!

Peaco wasn’t particularly strong for a Lord of a Town. He was only in his early level 30s, and half of that was through his family’s collection of aether crystals. Even so, they did have some people past that, but they found it difficult to open!

But the more they tried, the more their forces were affected!

Even those who were at level 40 were weakened by the toxic fumes! This was not to be underestimated! They needed all the powerhouses in this war!

No one, even the mercenaries they hired, had seen something like this before. Voumi must’ve gotten support from a City, or at least a powerful Town!

No, it could only be a City!

If the Alterrans who shot this could hear their thoughts, they’d feel very smug.

Anyway, the threat of more powerful people also supporting Voumi dampened the mood in Flaret, especially when seeing their Lord scurrying to hide like an idiot.

However, Felipe had pounded several ideas and lines into his head, so Peaco could at least serve his purpose as the Lord, at least for a while, and at least verbally.

“Fight! Fight them! We are not weak either!” Peaco yelled. “Rather, we are much more powerful than Voumi now, with the support we gathered so far.”

This was not a lie. Using drugs as leverage, they had really attracted forces that would settle down in a Town at least a rank higher than them. Peaco was also aware of the lineup of mercenaries in talks of creating a base in their lands. They were not few!

However, before Peaco could regain confidence, the enemies appeared to try and capture him, and he could only run away, which was what Bal and Leuw saw at present.

Anyway, this was not Felipe’s concern anymore, and he was already in his own hiding place while this was all ongoing.

He had already sent out the forces he had hired. Made sure they were well-equipped, and delegated powerful leaders and generals for each sector. He invested hundreds of gold in these forces.

This was also something that many Lords lacked. It was why hiding around in warehouses could even affect momentum at all.

In Felipe’s case, that wasn’t the situation. Just enough planning and preparation, and people wouldn’t even notice the Lord wasn’t even there.

It helped that a lot of his predictions (which were just intelligent foresight) had always been right the past couple of months. So the trust in him was pretty solid.

He could hide away with the token, just waiting for the war to end so he could officially merge with it.

It was in one of his unremarkable safe houses. It was on the second floor and looked innocuous and a bit old. The Town had dense housing, with the previous generation buying three-floor residential modules.

From the street, no one would think it was anything at all. Certainly not a place where the future Lord would camp in.

Felipe put his faith in the forces he built and the people’s desperate addiction to win this war. By the time the war was over and the Token was integrated into him, Peaco—assuming he was alive—would then be killed.

As for his chemist, he had already hidden her well. To most people, she was just his meek wife. But even if they figured it out, he was confident they wouldn’t find her.

She was his greatest asset and naturally received that amount of care.

As for the rest of the citizens, he wasn’t even worried about rebellions or anything like that. In the past months, he had been laying the groundwork for this.

He had long captured the heart of power in this Town; that flabby bastard had always been a puppet.

He was simply about to show everyone who the real master was, and that he’d receive the ‘official’ seal that proved it.

Just a few hours, he told himself, a sharp glint sparkling in his eyes. Just a few more hours and everything would be his!
