Chapter 1633: Diplomatic Missions (Part 2)

Otto’s North-bound bird arrived last—days later than the other two.

The birds were set to always land on the Center’s second floor, and then they would fly back to Reddit or wherever they were trained to go to rest, rehabilitate, and so on.

It happened that a minor meeting was going on when it arrived. It was one with Althea, Garan, and Mathilda discussing some arrangements for the future allies and subsidiaries.

They got the Lords of territories to go all the way here, while this deal had much more to serve them than Alterra, they still ought to show enough hospitality for everything to go as smoothly as possible.

It was just that when it arrived, the bird even looked quite pitiful. It had a lot of wounds, and a part of its left wing was broken. There was even a crack on its beak and a lot of blood on its chest.

It looked very injured but fortunately alive, and they immediately called their veterinarians as well as Reddit.

“Oh, poor thing…” The women couldn’t help but feel pity, looking at the injured avian. Reddit appeared ten minutes later and almost fainted at its state.1

The veterinarians were right behind him, and they immediately rushed over to see. Like in humans, injured creatures should also be taken a look at before they were healed by magic, just in case something could grow incorrectly.

Fortunately, after a couple of minutes of checking, the healer veterinarian used his powers on the bird, improving its state significantly. “He’ll be fine,” the vets said. “Though I don’t recommend him going out for a while.”

“He’s the youngest of the batch,” Reddit explained. “He is still a bit inexperienced. But it was one of the bigger birds, so I didn’t think it would end up being more injured.”

The smaller ones were faster, but it seemed like the bigger varieties were not only more difficult to feed, but they were easier to see as well.

That said, deliveries outside a few letters, like sending a few protection tokens, would need relatively bigger birds to deliver, so it was a give or take situation with them.

“Anyway, we don’t have any birds, and this little one has to take a rest,” Althea said. “This means we’ll have to cut communication with this team for a bit.”

“They have Otto with them,” Garan said. “They should be fine without contact for a few weeks.”

Anyway, Reddit and the vets eventually left the three, and it was only then that they read the contents of the letter. Apparently, Otto’s team had only found one territory so far—a territory named Guardian Village—because their terrain wasn’t particularly friendly to build on.

Otto’s path was different from Luis’ team, who were sent on the initial scouting mission. Luis’ team travelled as far as they could go with the resources that they had, heading in. This was so they could have a general idea of the distances. However, it was more like an outline without details at all.

Otto’s team, on the other hand, was tasked to scour the rest of the unexplored places near Alterra in this direction, slowly moving outwards, like a fan shape starting from Alterra, moving Northwards.

As mentioned, the Nispedana Mountains extended towards this region, and it wasn’t like most people were like Althea, who actively went to the mountains to build there. Hence, there were really no villages nearby in the area.

After horizontally scouring the unmapped places, it took them nearly two days on foot to find the next territory in this direction.

That said, it seemed like they had entered the central area, so they surmised that the villages here were relatively untouched by the aborigines, just because there were so many other villages nearer the borders.

According to the people in Guardian Village, a Level 3 Village, this really was the case, and the first aborigine attack they experienced was only recently.

Before that, while there had been a few initial wars between Terran Villages, many of the ones still standing now had an alliance.

Under the leadership of Guardian Village, all the hostile villages in this area seemed to have realized that fighting wasn’t the answer, and they had much more serious problems happening outside.

Guardian Village had 3 allies, a subsidiary, and even a satellite. “Hmn, that is comforting,” Althea said, genuinely happy to see a Terran village doing well on its own.

So far, although there had been Terran territories that had fought well, most were either defeated or had fallen under the rule of aborigines. Granted, a lot of luck was involved in the Guardian’s case due to their location, but it still felt nice that other places were doing well.

Not to mention, there were also plenty of territories originally in the place, but not everyone could maximize the advantage and build what they had built now.

Anyway, if that deal went well, then Otto and the others would’ve gotten at least 6 territories in one go.

Anyway, with all teams giving them the initial reports, they now have a list of territories nearby that fell under aborigine rule, and would therefore be the settings of the Terran Recovery Team missions.

“The Terran Recovery Team should also be mobilizing soon,” Mathilda said. “Is it really alright to mobilize so many people outside the territory?”

Not only was there the diplomatic mission, which also doubled as reconnaissance, there was also the Recovery Team that would comprise stronger people who prioritize rescue operations.

Like the diplomacy teams, they were also separated into teams, though only two now that they could temporarily forgo the North side.

When all these teams mobilized, then almost all of the soldiers would be outside Alterra.

Althea understood her point.”We have a lot of aborigines and I hire a few every day,” she said. “Besides, if by chance someone times well and manages to challenge us to a war, most of the teams should be able to return within the day. The late ones could cause damage from the back end.”

Since they had the advantage of communications (and a lot of aether letters), they could coordinate impromptu plans like this.

There was a twenty-eight-hour warning before a war would start. Not to mention, their intelligence within the walls was unparalleled. They’d likely get a whiff of hostility even before an actual declaration was made.

Anyway, Town-level hires were really so much better than those in villages. Although level 25s and above were not too common, levels 15 to levels 20 were common enough and would not cause losses to them.

Garan nodded. “Do not worry,” he said to everyone. “I can handle the territory’s defence. We only dare send them out because we are stable enough.”

Indeed. Alterra could afford to dip their toes outwards, tens if not hundreds of kilometers away from their home base, simply because they had enough confidence to do so.

They knew that, while a bit risky, it was really for the greater good and for the explosion of Alterra’s next stages of development.

They did, however, wonder how long the various missions would take…completely unaware that it would end much faster than they anticipated.

Thank you all~!
