Chapter 1631: Terran Recovery Team

Fortunately, all three birds arrived safe and sound and quite healthy for the first round. Reddit had not only trained them in their usefulness but also in survival, after all.

For instance, they equipped each one with the beast-repelling band, which was a solidified version of the potion. Its reach was very limited, but it worked well if the enemy was a few meters away. A few moments of a predator pausing was enough for the birds to escape danger.

Reddit and Eagle also trained them in evasion techniques. They did this by creating obstacle courses wherein the bird would be forced to skillfully maneuver through it without hitting a single obstacle. This training started a long time ago, not long after they decided to use messenger birds, so there had been some effects.

Anyway, the first letter to arrive was from Gurnam and Minko’s Northwest team.

Other than the Southwest area, they were most familiar with this direction. Most of the Alterran and Bright refugees were from these places, after all.

They were first to make a report because they skipped a few territories and triangulated to find the others they did not know about yet. The few Terran territories already in contact with Alterra jumped at the chance for an alliance, and they had long sent messages to them to head to Alterra to formalize it.

As for the rest of the villages skipped, it was because they had been defeated and taken over by aborigine villages, all associated with Voumi town in some shape or form.

Before they left, the Elders had debated what to do with the territories they knew had already been taken over by aborigines.

In the end, while cruel, they decided to skip them for efficiency. The process of rescuing people in these places was a long task, not to mention it’d alert people they didn’t want to alert yet.

The most efficient way was to take them to war, ideally get the tokens, and perhaps get the allied villages to take them as satellites if they wished to (probably for a cost).

To do this, though, it was best to consolidate all forces. These ‘fallen’ territories were surrounded by Terran territories; why not take advantage of that?

Besides, if they handled the ‘lost’ territories first, they feared that they’d lose more in the meantime because they waited too long to be connected.

So, while painful, territories like Diana Village, Juno Village, and Calma Village were temporarily skipped.

Of course, since the topic had been raised, the Elders naturally could not just ignore these territories and a new plan of action was formulated.

For one, weren’t they already actively rescuing people who were enslaved in aborigine territories? Technically speaking, the ones left behind in villages should be no different.

Better, many of them didn’t get the slave status (yet) and were therefore easier to rescue!

To be fair, they should’ve thought of it earlier. However, they had not yet stabilized in their tier, how could they spread themselves so thin before that?

Even if many of the soldiers were impatient to go out and look for family, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Plus, their home could get attacked at any time. In the end, they could only go a few villages beyond their allied territories, and not much else.

Like this, the Elders formed a new team—Terran Recovery Team— specifically handling the ‘fallen’ territories.

The minimum goal was to rescue the non enslaved Terrans and buy out those who were at minimum cost.

Anyway, it should be much cheaper to buy ‘slaves’ in villages compared to buying them in Voumi town. The standard cost of weak, unawakened elementalists in Towns was at least 50 gold. In Villages, they could be bought for a fraction.

The Elders also planned for what would happen to the rescued post-rescue. They would be brought to one of the territories.

If they were particularly skilled or talented, or had a relative in Alterra, then Alterra would give a relatively good offer and extra benefits for them to choose Alterra.

They were not forced to do so, of course. It was merely a standard recruitment move. They could choose whichever associated territory they’d like to relocate to, and it would probably have a lot to do with their relatives.

Alterra didn’t mind spending money if it would rescue their people while keeping their citizens safe. However, if the territory made things difficult, then… they’d just have to go to a war.

They could send either their satellite or their subsidiary, and even allies.

The extra advantage of sending satellites was that it would count as a war with Alterra, too, and this meant no other town could attack Alterra within two weeks.

However, they could only do it once every two weeks, and there were a lot of territories taken over. In the case that they could not wait that long, then allies or subsidiaries could be sent. Alterra would just help fund the wars.

They already connected with Bright and Belluga about this, in fact. They were willing to attack territories at Alterra’s behest, provided that they provided weapons as well as other forms of support.

Of course, the ideal was still to avoid a war altogether. After all, going to war was risking their people on both sides.

They didn’t really care if the name of Alterra would be used in the negotiations either. Maybe it could even serve as a deterrent and make the deals shift more easily to their side.

Like bullies who were trying to bend other countries’ wills to their advantage.

Thinking of it this way, they really seemed arrogant, but who cared?

These were their brethren. Since they knew the survivors here had certain types of genes, then there was a high chance they had relatives among those people, too.

And they were alone in this alien land. It should be a given: They should be depending, rather than be so weary, of each other!
