Chapter 1629: Excess Sugar

Misha rolled her eyes, and just stared at Sarah. “I hope you find news of Milo soon,” she said.

They hadn’t determined where he was sold off for now, unfortunately, though they hoped that Mafo would have figured it out during this time frame. What they did know was that it was from a territory far west because the Voumi Lord marketed his auction to people far away from where they were.

Master Hoffen was kind enough to send a letter for them, asking if there were new Elementalist slaves seen in their areas. However, because he didn’t want his name known, someone else had to send it.

As for whether his acquaintances would understand it was from him or open it regardless of whether they knew who the sender was, that could be on their luck. Another was that they didn’t want to expose Alterra in any way or form, at least not yet.

While it was unlikely for a City to check their letters, Alterra was a growingly popular name, and the people Master Hoffen sent a letter to weren’t small names, so they might check.

“It’s hard to relax when I don’t know where my brother is,” Sarah said. “But I’m determined to gather as many points as I can so when we find him, he can have all the resources he wants.”

…

Back in Alterra, working hours have ended, and the family gathered in the Gaea Villa living room again. Regardless of whether many of them had their own abodes, they would usually find time to hang out at least every few days.

Even Eagle was there now, primarily because his shift was over and he could finally bond with his wife’s family.

They would usually catch up with each other’s days, eat snacks, or maybe even play board games. At this time, Althea was resting her head on her husband’s wide shoulders while their baby girl would run to the coffee table, push herself up on tiptoes, gather cookies, and then toddle back to her parents to give them some food.

The two would stay still and let the baby feed them.

Interestingly, although Pepper seemed quite spoiled and a bit too sassy at times, she was also very sweet and thoughtful (particularly if the subject was aesthetically pleasing). It seemed like Theo’s following her around did more than just let her act like a princess, it taught her how to make people smile.

Anyway, her small feet stepped on their thighs for leverage, and then she’d place the small cookies in their mouths.

They would assist her by leaning down a bit so she didn’t have to struggle to reach them. As they chewed, the couple couldn’t help but hug the baby girl and give her a smooch. “Aww my baby is so thoughtful.”

The compliment made the baby girl giggle, easily melting hearts.

On the other hand, Little Meatball was still zooming around, a ball of energy that could not be calmed down.

He would bump to every surface in the house—as always—though he seemed particularly energetic right now.

Whether it was the side of the sofa, the coffee table, or one of the legs of a random table here and there, he’d bump into them.

At some point though, he actually lost his footing.

Boink!

Bump!

Bang!!

“Meatball!”

The adults looked in concern but the boy popped back up again and zoomed all over the house as if he didn’t just fall down. Heck, even if he fell off the verandah and started running around the garden a second later, they shouldn’t be surprised anymore.

At least they knew he was resilient, right? Right!?

“Okay! Someone confess!” Ansel yelled, eyes twitching. “Someone fed this kid a lot of sugar so early in the morning!”

However, they didn’t need to check who it was because the noise stopped again. At some point, all the running stopped, and after looking for him, they saw he was squatting in the corner, back facing them.

Ansel was particularly nosy, and he lightened his steps to look over and see what he was doing.

The baby boy was munching on chocolate donuts at the corner.

Not one, not two, but four of them.

“Those donuts… I made those two days ago…” Harold couldn’t help but say. Fortunately, it had a lot of sugar and the food here tended to spoil a bit later than in Terran. The space itself also had some preservation effects.

“He probably has a lot of food in his space!” Ansel said, walking forward and lifting the chubby baby by his armpit. “Gosh! You little glutton!”

The baby looked at him with those large green eyes of his, little feet wiggling in air as he was carried. There were also a lot of traces of chocolate all over his face.

“Meabow Hungwy!”

“…”

Althea and the rest of them looked over and giggled. Pepper was hugging her dad, though she looked at her brother in disgust, her delicate face scrunching adorably. 100% it was because of the mess on his face.

Little Pepper was slowly growing into a neat freak too. This was because in one of her teleportation sessions, wherein she hung around above a beam, and then appeared on the ground again some moments later.

Meatball saw the dust in her bum (she was wearing a pretty pink onesie at the time) and laughed at her for having ‘poopoo in bum’. At the time, Meatball’s face and bib had brownish food all over it, making it especially offensive.

Sadly, this wholesome family night was interrupted because a few guards came knocking a few moments later. “Miss Althea, Sir Garan, Elders.

“The drug has landed in Alterra!”

…

Their mood was definitely somber as they headed to the guard station. The guards explained some things on the way there, and a bit more when they looked at the man tied up in the cell.

“It seems like the dealer didn’t expose himself,” the interrogator, Loki, said. “Unfortunate.”

“His name is Eppot. He’s an aborigine refugee. His brother-in-law is Terran,” Loki said. “The brother-in-law’s name is Louie from the Glorious Hospitality Team. They said that this man had always been problematic.”

“What is his history?” Garan asked, and Loki already had a few sheets of paper listing the man’s previous transgressions.

“We checked and he did have a few records of being thrown in manual jail for harassment,” he said. “His sister bailed him out each time, but he’d just harass her every time. He would also be brought to jail thanks to our anti-harassment rules.”

“The dealer probably saw the greed in him,” Althea said, nodding. “Did he not say anything about the dealer? Anything?”

“No, Eppot said the person was wearing a mask, but the pay was generous.”

“They were very careful to protect themselves.”

They sighed, and everyone looked at Althea, who in turn took a look at the powder in Eppot’s possession.

“This is from the same source, but it has greatly improved since then. The purity of the drugs wouldn’t be possible with the equipment here,” Althea said.

“The other side has a very gifted chemist. And also a clever businessman right behind them.”
