____
Alterra Town
While Milo was forced to train even more than his peers, or walking a tightrope between success and death, the children of Alterra were… being children.
This remained after school, of course
By this time, most cliques had also combined and would often hang out together. There weren’t that many children after all, especially those closer in age, so they would often be playmates despite having separate close friends.
“Can’t we go to Eastern food street today?” a little voice mumbled as she tried to talk to her friends.
This was Lily. However, some of the boys seemed to disagree. 1
“Ehh… but we went there yesterday…” Maumu said. He went there with a few other friends the previous day, so he remained hoping to roam in another market.1
Each market (and the streets leading to them) might have a similar variety of offerings, but there were still some differences.
For example, the Eastern food street catered more to the sweet kind like tanghulu, baklava, sweetened rice cakes, churros, and other sweet snacks.
The western markets and food streets tilted more towards savory street snacks like barbeque, empanadas, samosas, takoyaki, spring rolls, and so on.
There was a bit of everything in all the food streets and marketplaces, but if one was craving a particular type of snack, they’d usually choose.
It remained Mimi who made a recommendation.1 “What about… we run around the two food streets and eat at Central Park?” She said. “This way, we also have the best view while we eat!”
“Ohhh~”
“Makes sense!”
“I agree!”
They all had their spaces despite their low levels, so it wasn’t like it was difficult for them to hoard snacks!
About half an hour later, all the children’s hands were filled with snacks as they headed to the Central Park.
The Central Park was different from Alterra Park. The latter was a grand, manicured park near the luxury villas and the river. On the other hand, Central Park referred to the Plaza and the gardens directly in front and around the Town Center.
Soon, they set up a picnic (there were small businesswomen making and selling picnic blankets) and hung around there, eating, chatting, and playing games.
Interestingly, at some point, soon lounging around with them was none other than Fufi and his family!!
They were already there when they arrived, probably when the kids were still at school, and most people were at work. They only found them while they were playing hide-and-seek, and it was an absolutely pleasant surprise.
The fluffy family was hanging around and playing in a hidden clearing pocket in the park. It was not big, but big enough for two big canines and hand-sized poppers.
The clearing wasn’t an obvious place because there were natural trees and shrubs left behind it, but the kids who found them were very small and didn’t know subtlety yet.
They did not even consider the fact that maybe the canine family didn’t want to be found—and immediately informed their friends of their find.
They were complete: Fufi, Snow (who hadn’t made an appearance in a while), and the puppies!!
“Fufi! Snowwww!”
“Puppiieesss!!”
“Waaw!”
One had to know that since the puppies were so small and had just been born, most of them hadn’t seen them yet! For the most part, they only heard updates about them from Maya and Horus, who lived with them!
Anyway, the kids were naturally excited to be with the fluffs. Fortunately, other than Snow, who was indifferent as always, Fufi seemed relaxed now, and the puppies were excited to see more energy jumping around and enjoying belly and head pats from random directions.
“Fufi! Snowwww!”
“Puppiieesss!!”
“SO CUTEEE!!”
Even Maumu and the aborigine kids were also very excited, maybe even more so, because they still weren’t used to battle pets in general, especially not such cuties.
Seeing the cute critters with their little bodies roaming around and following the large Fufi, or a random kid, their hearts melted.
“So cute…”
“I want to touch them…” Little Shishi mumbled, tugging at Lily’s shirt. “Would they hate it?”1
Battle pets were not common and so a lot of them didn’t know the rules and were afraid to offend the majestic creatures. Sure, the other kids were playing with the now, but they were elementalists! What about them?
Lily giggled and grabbed her hand, leading her to the dogs who, at this time, were already surrounded by children.
Fufi and Snow weren’t exempt from the headpatting of course, even if the humans were a fraction of his size even while lying down. He was on a break today, so he hung out with family, choosing a time with few people to head here.
As for his next assignment, Fufi was actually part of a team that rotated, and it so happened that their team was in the Internal Order team this week. He and his wife would be making rounds soon, so they decided to introduce the puppies outside bit by bit.
Speaking of Snow, she had yet to return to the battlefield after pregnancy, which was just right because the babies still needed her milk. This was one of her first appearances since giving birth.
Anyway, Fufi was glad the puppies were adjusting well and playing well. If the progenies were tired out by other people early in the daytime, then they’d have less energy to pounce on him and bother him and his waifu at night!
At some point, the puppies were lured out of the small pocket clearing and onto the larger play areas outside. Snow and Fufi didn’t bother with them, quietly staying in their own zone and enjoying a rare moment of peace and quiet.
Gone were the days when Fufi thrived on noise and chaos. He acted like a proper middle-aged doggo now.
As for the puppies, it went about as well as expected: their walk became a proper procession.
The little puppies were just bundles of joy, their fluffy fur seeming like clouds of differing colors. Their tiny paws waddled as they bounced along the turf, looking at the new environment and people.
Their fur seemed so cozy to touch, like one could hold them forever. They bounced around in excitement, tails wagging nonstop, and they let out sweet, high-pitched yips and whimpers, as if wanting to hit people’s hearts each time they sounded.
The people who were observing melted.
What a good time to be alive!
