Chapter 1540: Gathering Information (Part 2)
Other than the new teams and the ones-to-be, the more powerful official mercenary teams had also upgraded and registered in Ferrol.
First, there was the Gaea Chamber of Commerce, which was registered under Ansel’s name.
Most of their team members (except Althea and Garan) were there. Many of their employees who wanted to join in—provided they reached the level and strength requirements, as well as a certain tenure length—also joined in.
Of course, there would be a limit, as Class E mercenary teams had a member cap, so they really did comb through applications. They didn’t want to be elitist, but they naturally placed those with higher potential and attitude for growth on the priority list.
The benefits of joining the mercenary team were extra resources given away to the members. For example, like guards, members could get their own equipment, potions, and so on. This made the employees of Althea and Ansel’s various industries work even harder than ever.
There was also the Woodworkers Chamber of Commerce, which was under Jessie’s name. Like the Gaea Mercenary Team, they also accepted some employees as long as they met the requirements.
It was almost called ‘Hardwood Mercenary Team’ at some point, but fortunately, people with naming sense managed to intercept that application before it was too late.
It was quite a famous scene that was still being talked about. Many people described it as seeing an actual rugby match, with the players all being part of Baron’s company, and the ‘ball’ being the application form.
Anyway, members of this woody mercenary team were entitled to live for free in the team’s communal villa. They were also given some allowance for their equipment and consumables.
There was also the Golden Mercenary Team created by Otto. In translation to local language, the word for Golden could also mean many things, so it wasn’t like the family was announcing to the world they were back (though admittedly a part of them did want to).
As people from Cities, their requirements were much more stringent, but the benefits would also be greater.
Other than being surrounded by eye candy, the members would also get guidance on various things and professions from one of the Golds, depending on their specialties.
So far, except got the Golds themselves, only a handful of people had been accepted into the Mercenary Team.
Of course, Leez and the others were there. For Terrans, they managed to nab people like Hubert (who has his eyes on Olga now) as well as Cassie, one of the few female captains.
Somehow, they also got the uncle and nephew Helios and Hugo.
As for how they managed to do this, they simply promised to hasten the leveling of the mercenary team, and they’d definitely be one of the first of the new teams to reach Class D.
There was also the Hodge-podge Mercenary Team, which aimed to have various types of people there. It was created by Fred, one of the friendliest dudes ever.
They had a ‘diversity quota’ that aimed to have as many races as possible. The team’s vision was for them to grow powerful and go here and there and show that different races could work well together.
The Half-orcs had been waiting for the Alterra Mercenary Team to be established, but this one’s vision was indeed tempting.
In the end, they decided to divide, and Gochi and Maomao would wait for the Alterra’s mercenary team’s establishment, while Baku joined the Hodgepodge team. The team was so happy that they set up a buffet in the half-orc villa’s construction site.
“We will feed you so well!” Fred said. Baku rolled his eyes, but proceeded to eat a few plates of meat, anyway.
They also gained a few goblins who were more than happy to join as soon as they reached the level requirement.
This team also gained a few aborigines, including Mauru. In fact, he considered building his own team, and many Mauin citizens had proposed pooling funds together.
However, Mauru determined it would not be the smart move. After all, they were trying to integrate as deeply as they could. Forming a team just for them didn’t seem like the practical thing to do. They could remember life and their late lord in other ways.
And because the hodgepodge team got a lot of Mauin citizens, they also got quite a few of the Powers.
Fred was really capable like this, and it seemed like the fact that he owned the guide company—and was therefore the ‘first impression’ of Alterra that many people had— helped a lot with his networking.
As for Sarah and Gurnam, they also decided to join here.
They understood that they were still too weak to do anything, so they still hoped to join a mercenary to expedite their strength. Even if it was new, the important part was that they could take missions too, which would be valuable experience to them. Eventually, when they figure out exactly where Milo was, then perhaps they could use the Hall to travel more efficiently.
They had a list of places the boy could be, but he could have been resold from there as well. However, because the places to look were only a handful, Sarah was hopeful they’d find him soon, or at least get some news. In that event, they had to be ready strength-wise as well as connection-wise.
That said, mercenary Halls could not be treated as teleportation arrays casually due to their various rules, but it was a fact that they were extremely convenient.
Fortunately, Sarah had gained her freedom now, too. When Otto bought her name in Voumi, she could now buy herself, though she and Gurnam had to take loans to do so. This was necessary because slaves were treated as non-entities and therefore could not become formal mercenaries.
Releasing slaves could be done by the system during war when the territory was won, otherwise they had to be done in the Center directly controlled by the Lord who owned them.
This was why whenever war spoils were sold to citizens, they must do it in their own Centers. Even Juno and the rest of them, although they escorted the slaves to their respective territories, there was a list brought in by representatives, indicating which ones they had ‘bought’.
Anyway, now that Sarah and Gurnam were part of the mercenary team, they would be joining the rest to train well and perform missions so that, eventually, they’d upgrade to D-Class.
Under the protection of Baku, their most powerful member, the dozen or so new members ventured out to do their first mission!
They soon arrived several kilometers away from the Ferrol Town wall. The mission was to get the claws, teeth, and the heart of a particular type of monster, which the western area of Ferrol had an abundance of.
An abundance of it, it did.
A few minutes in, they were surrounded by a mob of at least a dozen!
Sarah jumped back, avoiding the claws of a level 12 monster. It was blocked by Gurnam, who appeared immediately. She jumped up the trees and positioned herself well, choosing proper angles.
She raised her bow and arrow, attacking the monsters’ weakness with her sharp eyes and her abilities.
“Milo, wait for me!”
Another long-ish chap~
