Chapter 1535: Milo’s Location (Part 2)

“Thank you, father,” the man said, bowing a bit. He then turned to Cauis with a curious look on his face. “Where did you get that many?”

Holt was tens of thousands of kilometers away from the Terran region. In terms of Terran sizes, that was halfway across the globe. Of course, Xeno was much bigger than Terran. Still, that was extremely far away.

This was why, although the people on this side had heard some news, it was too far to affect them. It was perfectly normal for them not to be aware of what was happening so far East.

However, this was Holt City, after all. Even if they didn’t know the details yet, they should still have some sort of idea. This was a test.

Cauis’ face didn’t change. “Aliens appeared far east from here. It seems like there are many elementalists among them.”

This made many of the men interested, including the King. “Are you coming back for more?’

Although he asked this, there was little greed in his tone. Holt City was also extremely powerful with thousands of elementalists as well. They would like to recruit more, but they were much calmer about it than others.

Many of the Elementalists and Powers were immigrants, working their way up until they could make it to a City. It was the natural movement of people with some ambition.

For example, if someone awakened in a village far away, chances were that they’d end up in Holt in a couple of years or so. This would naturally increase Holt’s strength, which, in turn, would attract more talent. It was a virtuous cycle that took hundreds of years to perfect.

Anyway, this meant that elementalists and powers would come to Holt on their own, so while weak elementalists were welcome, they wouldn’t go too far to take them.

So while they looked interested, Cauis knew that they were more interested in the fact that they were aliens, rather than the aliens being elementalists.

Cauis nodded, answering the King’s question. “Yes, your highness. I would like to return there and take a look again.

“And if anyone would like to make a trip, I’d be honored to serve as an escort.”

…

While Cauis spoke of details and schedules with the royal family, Milo was taken elsewhere.

Milo honestly didn’t know what else to do but follow. He was extremely wary in an unknown place all alone, but what could he do?

Sure, there were other Terrans here, but what were the chances he’d be able to talk about anything with them? According to the former master, the other ‘slaves’ were assigned to other places. This place seemed to be unlike what they had ever been to, and it felt like they’d be more powerless than ever.

He was led by an old servant named Kuba. He looked more than 70 years old (though he was probably even older), and he had a slightly hunched back and slow, steady steps.

His expression was bored and uncaring, but strangely, it comforted Milo more, and he had the courage to look around a bit more.

As they walked, the hallway became narrower and had increasingly fewer ornamental decorations. Soon, the path became extremely simple. However, the quality was still very good, even better than what most of the good houses in Towns had.

He arrived at a relatively plain, but still nice, door. “This will be your room,” he said. “You’ll be sharing a room with a few others. You are lucky. Even if you’re a slave, you do not have to join those in the dense dormitories.”

The old man seemed a little bitter about this. “The benefits of being an elementalist.”

The door opened to a four-bed room containing two bunk beds. There was no one in the room for now, but the items on the tables and on the beds indicated that there were people who owned them.

“Master Allain should be done with his academy class in another hour or so,” he said, taking out a piece of bread and a bottle from his space.

“Have dinner first. You wouldn’t be able to have meals when the masters are here.”

Milo blinked and stared at the offering, wondering if it was really for him. When he saw that the old man was getting impatient, he hurriedly took it, lest the old man get mad.

Milo shakily took a bite. He couldn’t help but blink when his tongue touched the bread and it melted in his mouth.

The taste of Terran bread had long faded in his mind, but compared to what he had been eating since they Migrated, this was… really nice.

He gobbled it up and drank the water, feeling a little teary.

He raised his head to look at the old Kuba who was staring at him blankly. The boy flushed in shame, but the old man didn’t seem to mind him much.

“Go out the servant’s entrance on this side in half an hour,” he said. “I will take you to see the masters then.”

…

The time to meet came and, as instructed, Milo went out the servant’s exit. It was located in a rear garden, away from the visitors’ eyes, as well as the masters’.

He looked up to see the grandness of the place he had just been in. It was larger than he thought. It was a mere extension for servants, but could be compared to villas he had seen in Towns.

He saw Kuba waiting there, looking annoyed as always, and Milo’s feet moved faster than ever. Kuba sneered at the sight of him and moved in a direction, and the boy could only follow without another word.

They walked along the paths towards smaller villas of a similar style to the larger palace. Smaller, but it was still about as big as the Voumi Town Lord’s house.

From a distance, past various gardens, gazebos, stone fences, and the like, he could see there were other such buildings. From his history class, he could tell this was somewhat of a palace complex.

For the first time, Milo felt quite curious about the new place.

So…yeah. Holt, for most part, is a rational city.
