Chapter 1531: Bedtime Story
The baby boy definitely did NOT appreciate his father’s teasing.
“Wuuu… Mama….” he mumbled, trying to reach for her while his father effortlessly held him in place with a hand on his stomach.
“You can’t, you’re too heavy.”
“…”
The baby suddenly had a burst of energy and practically leapt from the rocky stomach to the soft cushiony one, intending on jumping stomachs no matter what.
Althea blinked while Garan immediately scooted to the side, catching the baby just before it landed on her.
He sat up on the side of the bed and held the baby boy, who was still reaching for her. “Mamaaaa! Mamaaa!”
Garan looked at him. Why was this kid acting like he was being taken from his mother forever? So dramatic?
Althea sat up by instinct. The baby girl on her blinked and then pouted, annoyed by the sudden change in position. She was already getting comfortable, after all!
Althea didn’t notice the baby girl’s discomfiture for now. She just looked at her husband and son.
“What’s going on?” she asked, though her good eyesight saw her husband’s muscles were a little hardened, and she immediately realized the baby was using his ability!
He could’ve been afraid that the bed would get damaged, but she thought he was thinking too much. This bed was made by the best woodworkers in Alterra. If it could handle a level 29’s endless pounding, it could handle a bit of weight.
Of course, her husband was also afraid of the weight on her directly, but she wasn’t weak.
Reacting strongly wouldn’t do much good, either. If she let this be, her husband would definitely forbid the boy from even trying to sleep on her—ever.
Althea smiled, lifting her free hand. “It’ll be alright,” she said. “Come here.”
Garan sighed and lay down with them again. This time the babies were lying directly on the mattress. He forbade them from sleeping on their bodies from now on.
Fortunately, Meatball did calm and no effect was felt after that. It looked like things would be fine as long as they weren’t forced to sleep on the rocky place people called Garan’s stomach.
Althea chuckled, just proceeding with the story. “We will tell the story about Amber the Hungry Puppy!”
Amber the Puppy was one of the more famous children’s book characters in Alterra right now. It was a whole series, and she chose this one specifically for the baby’s current issue.
Anyway, the babies knew of these stories and were ‘fans’ of the dog.
“Puppwe!”
“Puu!!”
The babies excitedly exclaimed. Adorably, their Ps weren’t that sharp yet and they tended to splatter saliva when they said their Ps.
Althea had to wipe their mouths before proceeding with her story.
“Amber is a fluffy doggo who loves food. She loves every kind—whether it is biscuits, fruits, and of course, her favorite meaty dog food!
“One day, she saw a big bowl of food. She got so excited. Woof, woof, she barked, and she ate and ate,”
“Wooff! Eawt!” Meatball giggled, liking the story already.
But… Althea suddenly frowned, the tone of the story becoming a bit solemn. “However, she ate so, so much that her stomach rumbled in pain.”
“But still…even when her stomach started hurting, she still continued to eat…” Althea’s tone became lower. “Oh no! Amber’s tummy was too full! It hurts!”
The babies looked at her, and she summarized the lesson she wanted to tell them.
“You don’t need to eat so much. Eat slowly, and eat just enough. As soon as you feel a bit bloated, stop eating,” she said, gently playing with the babies’ tummies, making them giggle. “Otherwise, your stomach will explode! Boom!”
Althea increased her volume, which startled the babies. They both tilted their heads to look at her, apparently confused.
Suffice it to say: That did nothing to scare them.
Sigh.
Anyway, they patted the baby’s bums gently to ease them to sleep. At some point, a certain baby boy grabbed his legs and tried to put his little feet onto his mouth.
“Meatball, don’t eat your feet.”
At this, she heard a chuckle and she looked up at her husband, who smiled. “You used to do the exact same thing.”
“…” She wanted to tell him to stop talking like he wasn’t practically a toddler when she was a baby.
That said, she suddenly thought of a question, but pushed it aside for now.
Anyway, the tribulation of putting babies to sleep continued. Garan hummed a little tune, and eventually they looked sleepy. Althea almost fell asleep, too, but she forced herself awake to talk with her husband.
They watched the babies, listening to their breathing even out. When they were completely asleep, Althea couldn’t help but give them a light smooch on their soft faces, before looking at her husband, who had been staring at her the whole time.
“Did you gain more memories of… that time?”
“Which one?”
“Before our time in the orphanage.”
At this Garan’s expression became a bit more solemn. “Why do you ask?”
“I’m curious…” she said. “I feel like it’d help us understand the children’s… conditions…”
Garan thought for a while. “Well, you also ate a lot when you were a baby.”
“Hmn?”
“When you were a baby, you consumed much of the newborn Baby food budget.”
He didn’t say it, but he wanted to start working as early as four years old to help feed her.
It was like there was a blackhole in her stomach.
Althea gave him a look. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
To be fair, Garan didn’t really think about it anymore. As long as Althea grew up healthy, that was all that mattered to him at the time.
“The orphanage almost went broke.”
“…”
She pinched her teasing husband’s cheeks, “Answer seriously!” she said, voice not too loud to wake the babies, but enough to make Garan smile a bit.
“We’ll just feed them healthy food and give them enough exercise,” he said after some consideration. “They’re exhibiting powers again, after all…
“Maybe they’d need it.”
Kek sorry kinda fillery! But I did drop some plot hints! xDDD
