Chapter 1513: The Woman Behind the Substance
Felipe left the warehouse with his entourage that almost rivalled the Lord’s. The Lord did not mind this at all. Rather, he was the one who assigned so many guards to him!
Not only was his brain foggy, but he believed Felipe was his most important resource! In his mind, these guards would also help him monitor Felipe and make sure he didn’t stray away, or that none of his rivals could get to him at all.
He had no idea that they had long been Felipe’s people and had tasted the drugs even before the Lord did. At this time, they were extremely loyal to him and could feed the Lord any information Felipe ordered them to.
Anyway, Felipe had no worries and just focused on his work, knowing full well he was protected.
Unbeknownst to him, there was someone watching their movements, a robed man who was concentrated on observing him. However, due to the number of guards, the man had to step back in the end.
“Your deeds will catch up to you eventually,” was all he said, before disappearing into the shadows once more.
…
Felipe went home with a passive expression on his face, his mind wandering to the long journey he had had to take to reach this point.
He was abroad on a business trip when the Apocalypse happened. It was fortunate that, due to the nature of his trip, he brought a lot of bodyguards and weapons.
Thanks to that, they managed to ease through the apocalypse, encountering their first challenges only after the Migration. The only downside was that his money on hand was mostly digital, so except for some items they got from a jewelry shop and pawnshops, they didn’t have anything else.
He got 980 gold in his wallet when he migrated, which was still much more than everyone else, so at the time, he did not think much of it.
In any case, he was together with about a dozen of his men, all armed, and their spaces full of weapons and supplies, but even then, he lost almost everything.
Soon after the migration, they quickly learned the limitations of guns too personally.
After becoming the underground overlord of his City, that was the first time he truly feared for his life.
He swore never to feel that again and to do that he needed one thing: Power. He trained hard, but it was difficult to grow fast enough, considering they were so behind the aborigines.
Fortunately, he found a way to control them. It was even more satisfying now because they were so much stronger than he was, yet in a sense, he was more powerful than they were.
He stopped at his gate a few minutes later. His house was one of the villas in the territory, given to him in exchange for his services.
The guards opened the gates and went to their positions. All of them guarded from the outside in shifts. After all, outside of wars, the houses were safe from trespassers. There was no need to be guarded inside its walls.
He unlocked the door to the house, and footsteps immediately sounded from below, revealing a frail woman with long hair who greeted him with a loving embrace.
“Husband…” the woman called, her narrowed eyes sparkling at the sight of him.
She had a very plain face, with her freckles being the only unique feature on it. However, she was the most important person to Felipe.
She was his money maker, after all.
“Wife…” he smiled, patting her head. “Have you been working hard?”
“Yes!” she grinned. “You will be happy,” she said, dragging him to her laboratory.
The woman’s name was Mirei.
Back in Terran, she was his supplier’s star chemist.
The supplier’s main place of operations was all the way to Yuta country, and this was where the apocalypse caught him on.
After many years in the industry, he had had fruitful deals with their group, and he liked the quality of their products best. It earned him millions, though most were deposited in various banks around the world.
Sadly, it couldn’t be smooth the whole time. A few months before the Migration, the supplier decided to raise the price.
So he went to their country on a business trip to ‘talk sense’ with them.
Sadly, the supplier had his own backing and could not be touched easily. The backing was even a conglomerate in the country, and he even had some connections with the government.
However, he did find out about his star pharmacist after paying a hefty sum. It was a woman around his age, single, and had been working for the company since she was young.
She was naturally well-guarded and didn’t know much about the outside world.
For weeks, he tried to find a way, an opening, to approach her, but to no avail.
All he could do was live in the same condominium building she did, though her floor was guarded and he could only watch from afar as she was escorted to and fro.
However, as luck would have it, majority of the population suddenly became zombies and a wide opening burst open.
The disaster happened just after working hours in that country, and the woman had arrived in her apartment building. So many people suddenly fell down, as if dead.
He did not know what happened but all of the woman’s guards fell down like this, and he quickly went to her to finally make a connection.
However, the unconscious people started moving moments later, but they were no longer the humans they once were.
At the time, he didn’t know the scale of the disaster yet. He and a few surviving men all had guns, it wasn’t a big deal to have a woman attached to him.
None of the aborigines—who had always thought women were brainless creatures—would ever imagine that it was this woman behind the drugs they were so addicted to.
And they would never be able to guess it.
I wanna say “Girl Power!”, but…
