Chapter 1508: Breaking Through

Their massive party camped out a few kilometers away from Diana Village.

Otto and the others led the way for thousands more people who followed them. To avoid accidents, Otto gave out an order to behave well and follow without causing chaos, and also to defend themselves if monsters appeared.

Unlike the Terrans, although Otto himself did not own slaves, the psychological limit of keeping slaves and ordering them around wasn’t as strict.

Anyway, with their numbers, one elemental attack each on a small village-level mob would kill them.

On the other hand, the newly rescued slaves were confused and didn’t know what to expect. At the same time, there were also plenty who had a dazed look on their faces, as if they didn’t care about what happened anymore.

That was until mobs came and the ‘orders’ activated.

They felt complicated as they watched mobs that came at them easily taken care of…by them!

Even if they were weak and could only send out small and few attacks each time, the commands were clear and well-timed, leaving no opening for the monsters to attack.

It felt uncomfortable to be ordered around as a slave, but the order—for a change—wasn’t meant to hurt them.

It even specified to protect their own bodies, and it was a command that they had never heard before.

For those who got injured, they’d be ordered to back off, and no one had died so far because of this.

And their rates of killing monsters were also something they hadn’t experienced before.

They had always been divided back in their home village, as if their conquerors just refused to get them all clustered together, so it was the first time they worked together like this since being taken over.

It felt new, and it buried the heavy feeling of being ordered. That said, when they fought on their own accord, they realized the orders became null, and suddenly everything that was happening was their own will!

Soon, even those in a daze slowly had light in their eyes. But suddenly, the men in robes paused. He whipped his head to stare in a direction before yelling out an order that resounded amongst the slaves.

“Duck!”

His order made all nearby slaves kneel down, leaving a few dozen standing. They were clustered together too, for the most part, so they were fairly obvious.

They quickly realized what the order was and immediately tried to follow, but a gust of wind burst through from below, breaking their action.

Otto appeared where they were, grabbing a shoulder. “Who are you?”

“I…we…!”

“P-Please don’t kill us!!”

Someone even cried in his mother tongue, Terran. “I d-d-d-on’t want to diieeee!!”

Rowan, one of Otto’s ‘guards’, also disrobed and looked at the group. “They seem Terran, but they are not slaves.”

It was here that a uniquely-colored man stepped forward. He seemed to be the group’s leader. He was also wearing a robe, but the quality was very rough and it was full of holes.

“My name is Yayoi…” he said. “And I apologize for using your group…but our supplies have run out and many of us are tired, and we’re hoping to find a…safe territory to settle down.”

“However…we are not confident we can find one.” What if they ended up in another conquered territory? What then?

They had always been watching for changes. Thousands of Terrans leaving together was one.

They were hoping to blend in among the slaves and join them wherever they were headed, which would definitely be a strong territory if they could buy so many slaves.

Further, after hearing the commands from this group, it was clear that they wanted the ‘slaves’ to survive in one piece, which was already very unusual because it felt like out of concern, rather than simply taking care of the products.

Yayoi almost chuckled at his own imagination, but that was what he felt. It gave him some confidence in their plans.

Until they were found. Rather quickly, he might add.

Yayoi was a long-haired albino who used to perform in theaters. He even became a model at some point.

That also meant he was a very attractive slave. Fortunately, he was usually indoors hiding (because, sun) and he didn’t become a slave during the previous wars, which ultimately saved his life.

Everyone who didn’t become a slave was pretty much alive and was kept there because the territory had to keep standing. A lot of slaves remained, too, because the Lord was holding back sales for better deals

Diana Village also became one of the places where slaves from nearby territories were brought into, especially when the war took too long and the array closed down before they could bring home their ‘wins’.

The situation of the slaves was naturally the hardest, as long as there were no wars where they were sent to assist, it meant they were meant to serve and entertain the new masters.

They were also forced to find resources almost the entire day to fill up the territory, and they also served to guard the Village as well, all with barely enough rest.

This would’ve been fine and tolerable—if the aborigines didn’t hang around so much. They’d do whatever they wanted with them. The women had it the hardest. It always was.

The only difference for Terran women was that they were elementalists too, so the men made sure not to go too hard that the ‘product would get damaged’.

They were also ordered not to hurt themselves, so they could only live through the torture.

It was difficult to watch, but at the same time, Yayoi and the others knew that they weren’t powerful enough to handle these aborigines, especially when the majority of the population were slaves, and therefore could easily be ordered to kill them.

There might be no worse death for a Terran than to die in the hands of a brethren who didn’t have control over their bodies.

As for Yayoi and the others who didn’t become slaves, they tried their best to be as low-key as possible.

They lived their lives quietly, avoiding the times when aborigines were most active to hunt for food and beasts, as well as to gather resources to sell for the restaurant. This way, they could gather enough copper to stay in the protection of the territory.

If they had a decent amount of lights, a lot of them would mobilize only at night, as well. In Yayoi’s case, he was most comfortable at night, and he invested much of his little money in decent torches to hunt and forage.

Any other time, he was just hiding at home, trying to avoid the sight of the aborigines.

They eventually formed a group, living like little turtles squirming as close to the ground as they could. They survived by going out as a group and hunting, living on their own, until stronger monsters started to appear.

Those were monsters beyond their levels, and monsters they could not beat even if they all worked together! They lost some comrades like this, and frankly, they thought it would be the end for all of them.

It was then that man arrived, a soldier named Gian.1

And he saved them all.

For those who don’t remember Gian, he was part of the original soldiers. The dude who betrayed and went away
