Chapter 1506: In Between Terran Villages (Part 1)

Outside the tent, a certain powerhouse couldn’t push down his smile.

“Otto, what’s so funny?” Otto turned to feminine voices at the side. He was sitting on his camping bed and had a heater next to him. It was powered by natural gas and was quite comfortable.

At this time, most people had already been settling in. Whether they were listening to conversations still happening around them, no one knew.

Anyway, the person who talked was Stephanie, and appearing next to her was Lacie. The two women exchanged glances, and he could feel the tension from a meter away.

“Nothing,” Otto said, looking at them. “Can I help you with anything, ladies?”

Lacie smiled and walked in front of Stephanie. “It is really… warm on this side, I hope you don’t mind.”

Stephanie rolled her eyes. “Yes, we prefer to be on this side.”

He looked around them, with the hundreds of people around their area alone. Otto was right at the edge, and it was definitely less warm than the inner areas where people were clustered together.

Normally, his chivalry would let them sit by him even if he wasn’t planning on doing anything. However, he’d rather be alone right now and just stare at the tent.

“Considering the body heat, everywhere would be warmer than here,” he smiled. “And…I like the cold.”

“…”

…

A few hours later, still in the middle of the night, the next batch of watchers woke up and exchanged shifts. A particular tent opened up, revealing Misha, who was part of the next watchers.

She turned to see that Otto was sitting with his back against a tree, arms crossed. There were a lot of leaves that had fallen on him.

“Hasn’t he moved at all?” she mumbled to herself before heading to him, kneeling down, and gently taking off some loose leaves.

She wasn’t in a rush as she did so, taking her time to take off individual leaves, to make sure she didn’t wake him up by accident.

However, when she was done, she lifted her eyes to look at him, only to see that his eyes were wide open.

Her eyebrows rose, but she wasn’t flustered. “Good morning.”

He smiled and patted the spot next to him. He was using a comfortable camping mat (it was waterproof and had cotton inside). “You can sit here while you watch camp, my location is quite good.”

Misha nodded and did so. There was no reason for her to reject it.

Silence passed by them as they sat side by side. Fortunately, it didn’t feel particularly awkward.

“I don’t share,” Misha said after a while, and Otto’s eyes sparkled immediately.

He grinned. “Me, neither.”

…

The sun eventually came up, and everyone once again prepared for another long travel. Fortunately, they had now completely entered the so-called Terran Region, wherein the monsters were manageable, and they let the newcomers deal with every beast.

Things in the crowd got a little antsy when they went past the areas near several other villages like Juno, Diana, and Calma Villages—all of which had fallen under aborigine rule.

These were the previous villages of many ‘slaves’. Sammy and the others, in fact, had bought copies of maps from them as well as the areas around them. They did this back in Old Shrao Village, and they were given some copper per square meter of new information, which was great as startup funds.

Other than the three villages, the current slaves they had were a mix from five villages in this area. With them, their map of this region had significantly expanded.

And since they were in the vicinity of Juno, Diana, and Calma though… the others couldn’t help but wonder if there was anything they could do for the places they left behind.

After all…not everyone became slaves. There should still be plenty of terrans in the villages, some of them still had friends, family, or acquaintances there!

This was what was causing many to feel awkward, wondering if they should say something. At the same time, they didn’t dare ask so much.

However, some gathered courage. They knew they wouldn’t be able to rest at all if they didn’t do anything…

As for the costs—they’d think about it later.

Yulia looked at the guard walking next to them. It happened to be Rowan, who was walking alongside Silvia. There were many weakened ‘slaves’ so the couple gave their carriage to them too, which was really kind and touched a lot of hearts.

“Uhm… we’re near our former village… there are still thousands of people there.”

“Yulia!” many people called, some holding her back.

There was no way: They had been abused for nearly a year. Many were afraid that this good thing would get destroyed by asking for ‘too much’.

However, Yulia couldn’t help but want to push for it. She had been through the worst. She didn’t imagine she could get out of that alive! That gave her renewed courage.

“But… if they could take us from a town… I thought taking people from a village would be easier.”

“…”

Silence

She’s right. At this, the newcomers couldn’t help but look at their rescuers, wondering if they would decide to go on another good samaritan project.

Otto—who had Lacie and Stephanie walking closely next to him the whole time—blinked. “It isn’t a bad idea, actually,” he said, subtly trying to get away from the two women’s attention.

Goodness, if he didn’t sleep on a tree branch, these two women would have crawled into his arms.

That said, when he knew Misha would be waking up soon, he went down again, just in time to enjoy your leaf-gathering attention.

Anyway, he looked at the others, and their caravan slowly halted. “Since they’re villages, even if they don’t ‘get sick’ we might get them for cheap.”

It was here that Silvia spoke. “According to our investigation, the village Lords had indeed caught up and knew the value of the villagers in this area. I’m afraid that they might sell them for a high price.”

Otto nodded. “That’s fine,” he said, smiling. “There’s a way to keep them from asking for too much.”

He took out his long coat made of silk/velvet with golden embroidery, and used Alterran gel to comb back his hair.

He was very handsome, and he easily made women’s (and some men’s) hearts skip a couple of beats.

He looked at Rowan and then at Minko. “You two, come with me,” he said.

“Act like my guards,” he said, moving forward in the direction of the village.

“We’re going to buy a few more people.”

Thank you for reading all the way here, Alterrans!
