Abyssal Awakening - Chapter 857
Chapter 857: Guinea Pig
The Hybrid didn’t expect this as she even braced herself for an attack.
Yet seeing Elias turn and run so quickly…
She felt both insulted and livid!
Just as she took aim with her needle, Elias glanced back and snapped his fingers.
*CRACK!!!
Her arm fractured, forcing her to drop the blade!
“Sorry! As a healer my killing power is pretty low! But I can make sure you suffer a bunch!” Elias shouted back, sliding down some tiles before launching himself to the opposite building.
While flying through the air, he quickly opened his umbrella and blocked several bone spears launched towards him.
“Tch.” Clicking his tongue in annoyance, he was shocked to see the extent of this woman’s regeneration.
Though perhaps he should be rather grateful. After all, she seems rather slow when it comes to movement, limiting herself to ranged attacks.
‘Either that or she doesn’t want to make too much of a scene.’
Despite the fact that the civilians seem oblivious to what’s happening, the hybrid was still making sure she wasn’t directly harming them or being too obvious about her attacks.
Always making sure it would be out of sight to some degree.
‘She’s not stopping me from making large movements so I can’t use that as leverage against her. Just in case, I should probably keep things subtle too.’ Elias analysed her pattern of movement.
While Elias was analysing the hybrid’s attacks, she raised her hand and snapped her finger.
A wide smile appeared on her face.
In that instant, Elias felt his guts screaming at him to leave!
But by the time this instinct appeared, it was already too late.
Energy erupted around them, trapping him in a cage while smaller skeletal clones of the hybrid flanked Elias’s sides.
There were four in total, each of them had a golden mask and needle blades.
*BANG!!!
“Urgh!” Gritting his teeth, Elias barely managed to lean out of the way as an arrow was fired from the main body.
But while he was dodging, one of the clones slashed up, severing his arm from his torso.
Jabbing his finger into his torso, Elias forcefully stopped the bleeding for now while using his umbrella to parry two clones behind him.
*RUMBLE!!!
“Are you kidding me.” From above, several arrows began to fall as Elias adjusted his footwork, weaving through the net of arrows.
However, with his attention focused on the arrows, wounds began to appear across his body as the clones took this chance to attack him whenever they could.
“Really? This much for a healer? Aren’t you going a bit overboard?”
Stabbing his umbrella into the roof, he used it as a platform and jumped backwards.
Opening his palm, he expanded a barrier around him.
“Operation.”
Regenerating his arm, Elias flicked his finger and retrieved his umbrella.
Pulling out a thin blade from the handle, he took aim at the closest clone.
“Scalpel.”
Just as the clone parried the strike with a needle blade, she watched as Elias’s sword cut through the metal as though it didn’t exist!
“How many people with side effects do you think I’ve operated on? Some of them have skin tougher than metal!” Elias chuckled.
Kicking the clone away, he pulled back his umbrella once more, using it as a shield against the arrows.
The impact threw him back but he was unharmed.
Although…
Elias furrowed his brows. His umbrella was showing signs of damage. A few more of those and it’ll be destroyed.
“Though I’d be able to run but I guess an archer needs some good eyesight.” He sighed helplessly.
A bad match up.
Using his umbrella, his usual tactic would be to hide himself on the battlefield. But if that wasn’t possible, then his options was limited to stalling.
But in this case…
Reaching for the cuff on his sleeve, he crushed the bead.
At the same time, two clones rushed forward with several arrows raining down from above.
“Didn’t I tell you to be careful? Why are you calling for me so quickly?” Alice’s voice rang out,
She pinched the needle blades between her fingers while void portals appeared in the air, teleporting the arrows away.
“You can’t exactly blame me when she’s countering my biggest skill.” Elias chuckled, sitting down.
Despite only just appearing on the scene, she was able to accurately understand what was going on and even snuff out the arrows travelling at insane speeds.
With how confidence she was being, he felt rather safe in her hands.
“I suppose so. But an opponent like this… you should be able to deal with pretty easily ya know? She’s not that strong.” Alice tilted her head at the hybrid.
Sure she felt uncanny.
Sure she looked spooky.
But…
Alice wasn’t feeling any sense of danger.
Just a weakling, nothing more nothing less.
“I’m just a healer. I’m not exactly meant to have a strong offensive power.” Elias scratched his hair.
“I suppose so. Well let me clean up quickly then. If anything, this hybrid feels more like a failed product. Would it even benefit us to capture her? Probably not.” Alice narrowed her eyes.
While having her conversation with Elias, the clones had abandoned the needle blades and tried to attack only to have every attempt blocked by a mix of blood and metal.
Every strike, every slash, all of it was countered before any power could even be generated.
As for the arrows from the main body, none of them had any hope of landing against them.
Not when Alice filled the entire airspace with void nodes that’ll open the moment an arrow approaches.
She didn’t even need to consciously trigger it either.
Tiny threads were spread across the arena and triggering it with the arrow would open the portal.
She could even lay down and sleep if she wanted to and this hybrid wouldn’t be able to kill her at all.
“Let’s see… How should I do this.” Alice mumbled.
Void Step.
Appearing behind every clone for a split moment, Alice tapped them with her finger, causing them to erupt with violet flames.
“!!!” The hybrid felt a chill.
She had to ru-
“Let’s not have that. It’ll just be more work for me.” Alice sighed, staring at the hybrid at eye level.
The hybrid wanted to counter but… it couldn’t?
Her breathing faltered.
Where was her bow? Her arrows?
Alice lifted the hybrid’s head.
She could see the trembling lips as she was beginning to realise what had happened.
“Ah~ So you’re worried about that. I’m a kind person so here you go.” Alice turned her head around.
In front of them stood the headless body of the hybrid, blood still spurting from the neck stump.
“Like I said, you’re not that strong. Are you a failed product or something?” Alice questioned, turning the head around once more.
If anything, the only surprising thing about this hybrid was the survivability.
Even after the head has been severed, she was still alive.
Gritting her teeth, the hybrid glared at Alice.
Then, from her head, tendrils and bones shot out in an attempt to stab Alice.
*CLANG!!!
The hybrid froze.
Clang?
She glanced down and Alice’s arm was protected by Void Fang, the bones and tendrils struggled to breach her arm.
“Hmm… You’re not a very talkative one are you?” Alice furrowed her brows, giving the head a little shake.
Thinking to herself for a little bit, a deep sadistic grin appeared on her face.
“Elias!” Alice shouted out.
“Hm? What is it?”
“I think we found a perfect guinea pig for our experiments.” Alice licked her lips.
Elias raised his eyebrow.
To him, this hybrid was a dangerous foe. But to Alice…
This hybrid was nothing but a guinea pig.
“Do whatever you want. It’s your prey anyways.” Elias sighed.
He knew she was strong considering her performance against Theron.
But now that she’s put against someone with the same number of Sigils, her dominance was clearer than ever.
No one below Lord can even think about harming her.
Hearing that she was going to be turned into a guinea pig, the hybrid prepared to self detonate.
Yet with a single snap of her finger, some blood mist and her second Sigil, Alice stopped that plan immediately.
“Let’s not have you do that. You’re a precious material right now. If you were to go an blow yourself up, I’ll be pretty sad ya know?” Alice chuckled, swinging the head around like a bag of groceries, holding it by the hair.
As for the headless body…
Alice glanced back and condensed her fire into a single tiny spark.
Flicking it towards the body, she turned around and walked away.
The instant the spark collided, the body was turned to ash, disappearing into the wind.
“I hope I didn’t interrupt anything did I?” Elias asked curiously, pulling himself up but Alice shook her head.
“Nope. The informant didn’t exactly tell me much except that we should experience sundown first. Afterwards she’ll answer any questions that I have.”
“Sundown? Does it have something to do with the anomalies we’ve been seeing?” Elias asked, gesturing with his chin towards the civilians.
Despite the battle, none of them ‘noticed’ the commotion.
“Probably. Something about a realm of nightmares and blood. I’m guessing… we’ll probably find the side effects we were expecting to see.” Alice scratched her chin.
“Well that name isn’t ominous at all.” Elias’ smile twitched.
Once again, he was forced to consider if coming with Alice was the right choice at all.
In the short time he’s met her, he’s already being dragged into a realm he didn’t even know existed along with a hybrid of the Zenia family that almost killed him.
“Don’t worry about it~ Life is all about surprises after all.” Alice laughed.
Elias sighed.
Before going to this strange realm, he needed a drink or two to calm his nerves.
