Chapter 512: Bionics XV

The second chimera had been watching the entire fight.

Its eyes glowed brighter now, and the blue fire running through its body burned hotter. It lowered itself slowly, claws digging into the ground like it was preparing to sprint.

Asher rolled his shoulders once, steadying his breathing.

The Knight took position beside him again, sword raised.

The second chimera didn’t waste time.

It shot forward immediately.

Asher moved first. He stepped in and met the charge with a straight punch to the creature’s face. The impact made the chimera’s head snap to the side, but it didn’t stop. It swung its arm across its body, trying to cut him in half.

Asher blocked with his forearm, letting the force slide past him, and pushed off the ground to gain distance.

The Knight rushed in from behind. Its sword aimed for the chimera’s back, but the creature’s tail whipped around fast, smacking the blade aside with a loud clang.

The chimera followed that movement by spinning its whole body. Its leg shot out in a heavy kick that hit the Knight square in the chest plate, sending the Knight crashing into a wall.

Asher dashed back in.

He struck at the chimera’s elbow joint. It wasn’t cracked yet, but the force made the chimera grunt in irritation. It retaliated with a fast stab from its metal-smoke arm, now shaped into a sharp spike.

Asher twisted his torso, the spike barely missing him, then slammed his palm into the creature’s wrist to throw off its aim.

The chimera tried to bite him next. Its jaw lit up with blue light, preparing to fire that beam.

Asher grabbed the bottom of its jaw again and forced it upward, ruining the shot. The beam fired into the ceiling instead, blasting chunks of stone down on all of them.

The Knight recovered and charged back into the fight. It swung in a clean slash toward the chimera’s spine, but the creature bent forward unnaturally, dodging under the blade.

Then it countered.

Its tail whipped around again, this time hitting the Knight hard enough to knock it off its feet.

Asher didn’t give the chimera time to follow up. He kicked its knee from the side. The armor didn’t crack yet, but the hit made the chimera stumble.

The creature snapped around and slammed its fist into the floor. A pulse of energy burst out from the impact. Asher jumped to avoid the shockwave, but the force still pushed him back a few meters.

The chimera rose again, its body shifting. Plates opened slightly along its shoulders and spine, glowing brighter.

It was powering up—same as the first one.

Asher tightened his grip on his weapon.

“Same plan,” he said. “Break the joints. Slow it down.”

The Knight nodded and stepped forward again.

The chimera lowered its stance, eyes locked on both of them.

The chimera launched forward with a burst of speed.

Its claws dragged sparks across the ground as it closed the gap in less than a second.

Asher slid to the side, avoiding the first swipe. The chimera’s claw tore through the air where his head had been, cutting a clean line into the stone behind him.

The Knight moved in from the opposite angle, swinging at the chimera’s knee to start weakening it early. But this chimera was faster than the first. It twisted its body sharply and brought its tail down like a hammer.

The Knight blocked, but the impact still forced it down to one knee.

Asher attacked again. He stepped in and targeted the chimera’s shoulder joint. His blade struck the armor, leaving a visible dent but not a crack. The chimera snarled and drove its forehead forward, trying to headbutt him.

Asher ducked under it and elbowed the creature in the ribs.

The chimera lashed out with both claws at once, swiping in a cross pattern. Asher jumped back, barely avoiding the claws as they ripped the floor into pieces.

The Knight recovered and charged. It aimed for the chimera’s tail this time—the weak point they managed to exploit before. The Knight’s sword cut across the surface, leaving a light scratch.

The chimera responded instantly.

It backhanded the Knight so hard the armored figure skidded across the ground, sparks flying as it slid to a stop.

Asher jumped in again.

He struck the chimera’s knee from the front while planting his foot behind its leg to force pressure in the same direction. The knee bent slightly, but not enough to break.

The chimera roared and opened its mouth wide. Blue fire gathered inside—another beam.

Asher moved before it could fire.

He grabbed its jaw again, just like with the first one, and forced it upward. The beam fired into the ceiling, blasting a wide hole through the stone and sending a rain of debris down.

The chimera jerked its head violently, throwing Asher off.

It straightened, its spine glowing brighter and plates shifting wider. Its whole body trembled with the extra energy rushing through it.

Then it vanished from sight.

Asher’s eyes narrowed. He tracked the pressure in the air and jumped back just in time.

The chimera reappeared in front of him with both claws pointed straight toward his chest.

Asher blocked the first claw with his forearm and knocked the second away with his knee. The force slid him backward across the floor, but he stayed on his feet.

The Knight sprinted back into range and slashed the chimera’s back. The blade hit between two plates and finally cracked one of them. A thin line of blue energy leaked out.

The chimera screeched and whipped its tail backward. The Knight blocked, but the impact shoved it into a wall again.

Asher took advantage of the opening.

He rushed in and hit the cracked spot on the chimera’s back with a heavy punch. The crack widened. The chimera staggered forward.

It spun around and swiped at him with both claws. Asher dropped low, swept its good leg from the side, and forced the chimera to stumble.

Its balance wavered.

Asher pointed at the wound.

“There. Keep hitting that.”

The Knight got up again. Even damaged, it moved without hesitation.

Both of them advanced on the chimera together.

The creature planted its claws into the ground, spine glowing like it was reaching its limit.

It wasn’t going to hold back anymore.

It launched forward again—determined to take at least one of them down.
