Chapter 506: Bionics IX

The Abyss Dragon Knight intercepted the follow-up attack. The dragon swung its tail sideways, the air bending around it like it was cutting through reality. The Knight braced its shield and took the hit head-on.

A shockwave exploded out.

The Knight dug its shield into the ground, pushing back. The stone under its feet cracked, but it held firm, forcing the dragon to recoil half a step.

Asher was already moving.

He shot forward, feet pounding the ground, and appeared under the dragon’s chest. His fist punched upward, striking the underside of the monster’s jaw. The dragon’s head snapped back, blue fire spraying from its fangs.

But the void core above its head pulsed—once.

A ripple shot down its body.

The dragon’s scales hardened instantly, turning from liquid-black to sharp crystal plates.

Asher pulled back.

“…Great. It can buff itself.”

The dragon’s wings slammed down. A wave of force shot outward, knocking Asher off his footing. He rolled, came up on one knee, and flicked his hand.

The Abyss Dragon Knight moved in again, shield up, sword ready.

The dragon opened its mouth. A sphere of compressed void energy formed between its teeth and shot forward like a cannon blast.

The Knight raised its shield.

The blast hit.

Stone shattered. The shield glowed red from the impact. The Knight held for two seconds—

Then the beam pushed it back, slamming it into a wall.

Asher cursed and dashed in from the side. He didn’t aim for the body—he went straight for the floating core.

He leapt, twisting mid-air, fist pulled back.

But the dragon reacted instantly.

It snapped its head up and bit at him.

Asher yanked his body sideways, feeling the teeth graze his arm. He landed on the dragon’s shoulder, but the scales shifted, turning liquid and slippery. He slid off, flipping before he hit the ground.

The dragon’s tail came down like a hammer.

Asher rolled out of the way as the stone floor exploded.

“Knight!” he shouted.

The Abyss Dragon Knight burst from the rubble, shield gone but sword intact. It dashed around the dragon, swinging at its legs. The blade cut into the joint, sending sparks of void energy flying.

The dragon roared, kicking upward and sending the Knight skidding across the floor again.

Asher appeared behind the beast and struck the base of its wing, driving his elbow into the bone. The dragon jerked, its wing folding awkwardly.

Not a crippling hit, but enough to slow its movements.

Asher didn’t stop. He kept hammering at the weak points—the joints, the underbelly, the thin scales near the wing base. Every strike forced the dragon to readjust its stance.

But the void core above its head pulsed again.

Another ripple ran down its spine.

The dragon’s power surged.

Its eyes burned brighter.

Its claws lengthened.

Its whole body radiated dangerous heat.

Asher clicked his tongue.

“It’s going to keep boosting until it kills us.”

The dragon inhaled again.

Void energy gathered in its lungs—stronger than before, enough to erase half the chamber.

Asher tightened his fists and shouted:

“Knight! Go for the core!”

The Abyss Dragon Knight charged.

The dragon’s chest swelled.

Asher sprinted straight at its face.

The dragon released the breath attack—a massive beam of blue void fire.

Asher jumped straight into it.

His aura exploded around him as he crossed his arms and pushed through the beam, boots digging trenches into the ground. The beam burned across his skin, shredding the floor behind him, but he drove forward step by step.

The Knight used the opening.

It leapt, swinging its greatsword upward at the floating core.

The dragon turned too late.

Steel met void energy. The sword cracked the surface of the core, sending a shockwave through the room.

The core flickered.

The dragon roared in pain.

Asher forced his way out of the beam and jumped, driving a straight punch into the dragon’s jaw. The blow sent the monster stumbling back.

For the first time, it lost balance.

Asher landed beside the Knight.

The dragon steadied itself, flames dripping from its teeth, eyes burning hotter than ever.

Asher wiped the blood from his arm.

“Good,” he muttered. “Now it can bleed.”

The void dragon dropped into a lower stance.

Its wings shifted.

Its core dimmed.

Its claws tightened.

It was preparing to kill them both in one charge.

Asher cracked his neck.

“Knight,” he said quietly. “Round two.”

The dragon exploded forward.

The dragon’s charge tore a trench through the floor. Everything in front of it warped—the air, the stone, even the light itself. It wasn’t just moving fast; it was distorting space to reach them faster.

Asher grabbed the Knight’s arm and yanked it sideways.

“Move!”

They split apart just as the void dragon tore through the spot they were in. The wind pressure alone cracked the wall behind them.

Asher didn’t wait.

He pushed off the ground and sprinted after the dragon’s flank. The Knight moved at the same time from the opposite side, both attacking from two directions so the dragon couldn’t focus on one target.

The dragon skidded, claws digging into the stone, and whipped its tail toward Asher.

He ducked under it and slammed his fist into the creature’s ribs—once, twice, three times—rapid, direct hits. The scales cracked slightly but didn’t break. The dragon’s body was simply too reinforced in its boosted state.

The Knight capitalized.

It jumped and brought its greatsword down on the dragon’s front leg. The blade buried halfway into the hardened scale before stopping, but it still forced the beast to lurch.

The dragon roared and swung its wing like a massive blade.

The Knight blocked with its sword, but the force threw it backward, sliding across the floor.

Asher vaulted up the dragon’s arm, running along the limb to close distance with the floating core. He aimed for it again, jumping high with both fists raised.

But the dragon reacted faster.

Its void core flashed, and gravity around Asher suddenly spiked. His body dropped like he’d been caught under a collapsing building. He hit the ground hard, gritting his teeth.

“Gravity field… great,” he muttered.

The dragon’s foot came down to crush him.

Asher rolled away, the giant claw slamming into the spot he was just in, cracking the stone into a crater.

The Knight reappeared at the dragon’s side and slashed at its torso to divert attention. Sparks of void energy scattered from the impact. The dragon hissed, turning its head toward the Knight, jaws opening wide.

Asher pushed himself back to his feet and lunged at the dragon again, grabbing its horn and pulling its head down slightly. He jammed his knee into the side of its jaw, forcing its bite to miss the Knight by inches.

The dragon shook violently and threw him off.
